My Indecisive 4.0 V8 1UZ-FE Project
Anyway... today some progress was made. I finished putting the auto diff back together with new seals, had to make a pikey seal installer thing as I didn't have a socket big enough to tap them in with. So a bit of MDF and a holesaw later I did!
I also took the diff that was on the car apart and counted the teeth on the final drive, it's definitely a 4.1 and my auto one is definitely a 3.9.
I've noticed that the input where the prop bolts on is different on both diffs. Not sure if autos have a different prop, or if the same prop is used but the auto box is longer? You can see the one on the right the plate the prop bolts to is further away from the housing, whereas the one on the left you can see the nut protruding.
Cleaned up the block face and installed the new oil pump and a new o-ring on the oil feed. I had to improvise putting the front oil seal in and it's a little bit distorted now, but not enough to make any difference IMO.
I'm happy with this now so I threadlocked the Earl's fittings and sealed it onto the oil pump.
I'm not really sure how I'm going to get hoses on them, they seem really close together!
All sealed up and back together w/timing gear. I would have done the idler and tensioner but they get in the way of the water pump so that can wait 'til next time:
Don't know quite why those photos have all come out blue. There were more too but they haven't uploaded for some reason. I'll update the post if they come back...
Creepy blue light lol
mattlaw Checked our manuals, they say the same, spoke to 2 of our lads an they both agree that if it didn't have gasket sealant on it, don't put it on

It's payday! Ordered a Mazda fuel filter so I can put the back end back together. There is more shiny stuff to come too, plus a trip to Toyota in a minute...
Edit: I have also found the cause of the blue light. Must remember not to mess around with camera phone settings...
