Bobby Good job mate, when I heard your system at JAE it was well impressive wonder what it will be like next year

Louder!!

More mid range Bass and less high end treble. An active crossover is going in as soon as I can afford it.

Right.

New sub box - 2Cu Ft with a tuned port, going to make it out of MDF, and have it facing into the ski hatch, shaped to fit the profile of the boot structure.

Reason is I was sitting in a scooby with the same sub as mine in a vented box, the sound was so much louder than mine!!

Update on the fronts:

The rainbow components failed..................... A wire going from the input clamp seamed to work loose and the sound quality got really bad at low volume and OK at loud volume - loose connection therefore component failure.

Not to worry though they are going to be replaced under warranty, should have a new set next week!!

Question:

how much clearance do I leave for the cone to move?? How is this measured??

Quick play on Sunday and a new box is done and installed into the car - goodbye boot space hello vented box!! It is even louder now and the bass really punches through the car, even at low volume levels (that was the main target). I followed the manufacturers guidelines for size and port dimensions exactly and it really shows when you crank up the volume!!

Photos - because we like photos on this site:

As you can see the box is shaped to fit behind the ski hatch of the IS200, I deliberately shaped the front to allow the woofer cone to move to its full amount without coming out in front of the "wings" either side so the box can be pressed hard against the back wall of the boot. The amps are now attached to the sub box otherwise I would have no boot left!!

Nothing a well tuned tubby won't sort out.
Cover it when it gets back from SPC.

Front speaker replacements arrived today.

The Rainbows that failed have been replaced with Alpine, SPR-17s's (6.5 1/2" components) they look far more substantial than the Rainbows - bigger magnet, heavier. Wonder what they sound like!!

Can't fit them at the moment as Wayne from SPC is playing with my car!! but looking forward to getting them in.
