Sorry for the ancient thread revival, but i have a few questions.

If i fit a double din unit, can i not just get a converted connector for the plug that goes into the back of the factory unit ? what is the need for this amp bypass ?

I have no sat-nav and no immediate plans to fit any further speakers etc.

Just a little confused at the need to do this.

cheers.

The problem is, the connector behind the factory unit ONLY connects to an amp. There are no wires behind the stock head unit that connect directly to the speakers. So you have to take the amp out of the equation, and run a cable from the amp to your new stereo, which is what the amp bypass lead is!

To clarify, you take the cable out of the amp input, connect to one end of the amp bypass lead, and the other to the connector block on the new stereo, effectively taking the amp out of the setup...

Hi Guys,

Firstly can I start off with saying fantastic tutorial there, it helped me alot. Although I did get a few scrapes getting that ****** amp out!!

Anyways slight problem. I have removed the amp completely for the time being. The big block connector fits into one end of the Autoleads Bypass lead I bought off Fleabay. The other end fits into the iso connecter of the cable supplied with the Pioneer 8400bt unit and into the HU. The issue here is that i get no power going into the HU, any reason why ?

Incase I thought I blew a fuse, i connected the old stock HU and that powered up fine, so i'm a little confused.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

From memory, I had to swap over a couple of wires (red and yellow) to make mine work.

But yeah the amp is in a bloomin awkward place!

If its anything like the lead andymunro and I fitted today then it's a shocking example of a lead!

Do you have a pic of it?

The one we had only had one power wire, and both rear speakers wired to the left rear. Also the mute wire grounded?

Hi,

I'll take some pictures of it tomorrow, get some closeup shots.

It's the Autoleads brand that was sent, and was bought from this guy, and its the same lead in the auction

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-IS200-01...5645f5d15f

I would have liked it being "plug n play" but it's never that easy is it!
