My Indecisive 4.0 V8 1UZ-FE Project
The project is alive again
I have no real option but to run the fuel hoses through the cabin, there is no where easy to route them on the underside that won't come near the exhaust - the car wasn't designed to have 2 exhaust manifolds in it. To that end I've got some Goodridge 600 series teflon braided hose. Teflon doesn't allow any leakage of fuel vapours like rubber hose does, so it's suitable for use inside a cabin - just ask a Monaro owner what it's like living with a car that has rubber fuel hoses inside the cabin!I've redone the fuel pump hanger that's pictured above, and started on routing hoses inside the car. I need to drop the diff off the car again to route the hoses around the underside of the body there so they can enter the cabin in what was the driver's side rear seat area. I figure if the battery is in the passenger side one it's not a good idea to have a fuel filter in the same place - sparks will happen when connecting or disconnecting the battery, and if any of the fittings or the filter leak I don't want a battery submersed in fuel
So the fuel filter will be behind the driver's side rear storage bin, hidden away but easy enough to get to by removing a few bits of trim if needs be. The battery weighs more so still best to have that on the passenger side.

The fuel level sender moves from this onto the outside of my FEED style fuel tank baffle. Requires a bit of jiggery pokery to fit - this is only the top half of the baffle as it won't fit through the access hole in one piece

The black wire is to ground the baffle and the sensor assembly via the fuel pump hanger as before. All the wiring is PTFE coated rather than PVC so that it's fuel resistant, and the hose is Gates 400 series, which is SAE30R10 rated so that it can be sat in fuel long-term.
Whole lot's now in the tank and shouldn't be coming out again...

Mounted the fuel filter above the diff, where the factory one sits normally. I didn't want to put it here but there's not really anywhere else it will fit. My rear bin idea didn't work out as the filter's just too bulky to clear the storage bin.

I still need a few t-clamps to hold the hoses in place as they go over the rear subframe as they are already chafing on it. I've re-used the original filter bracket to hold the fuel return hose in place with a couple of p-clips, they need uprating to larger ones as I had to remove the rubber from them for the hose to fit. Think they are 10mm and the hose O/D is 11.2mm.
2 bulkhead fittings take the fuel send & return hoses into the cabin and the next step is routing inside the cabin, but I need a load more clips and clamps to do that. I've got some sheet ali too, to build a shield for the fuel filter as it's in a place where muck will get thrown up from the road by the rear wheels.

Need to look into the aluminium for some of my tasks as you say it's so cheap and easy to work with
