About 3 layers of paint, Pat. No idea what the guy who owned it before Matt used but the blue stuff is incredibly hard and has etched the plastic. It took me about 2 hours to sand down the gear surround and I'll probably do it again as there are bits I'm not happy with.
Looking good mate. I'm interested in this gearbox selection that you're looking into. Which box are you using to mate to the 3UZ? Specifically what car does that box come from? I'm also interested in a projected price for the set up? I don't mind you sending me a pm mate.
I currently have the 3UZ (love the sound and the pull on it), but the standard box is lifeless with not much chance of adding a paddle set up to it. I've considered manual, but sometimes I enjoy the ease of auto. Having the best of both would be fun!

The gearbox is the late spec 6 speed auto from the GS/LS/SC430. It has manual shift on the selector, I'm simply going to wire in some paddles.
Price is anything from the price of a donor car and facilities, to going full standalone with after market control, which will be about 15k+ for a properly tuned car.
Yeah I hope so haha. Should be a very instant kick in the back as well, with the 4.27 rear end, it will be slightly more aggressive than a v160 for the first few gears but still hold a higher top speed.
15k is for the engine and gearbox swap, labour a Syvecs s6plus and r&d. That's not a quote, it's a ballpark figure.
You'd be better off buying a 6speed car if that's all you want to change.
For that effort I think manual is looking the better option for me as it's been done many a time before. I didn't realise what you were trying was a relatively new idea. For some reason I thought it had been done lots of times before. I'd love paddle shifts but with Toyota's ability for making their electronics over complicated, I'll think I'll give it a miss 😂😂
