The yoghurt has arrived!

Got tired of waiting for the official update so flashed the latest 2.2 rom on to my phone last night (JPK for those interested) and very impressed with it - there's a few changes on the face that make it a bit better but most of the changes are underneath. It's so much smoother than 2.1 with no lag fix applied, so with one on I'd imagine this will be seriously fast.

No problems so far except that it seems to be using a lot more battery than 2.1 did, but unlike 2.1 where juicedefender would slow the phone down quite a bit, on 2.2 it runs without really having any effect so battery life is fine.

I'll update in a few days after I've got a bit more use out of it Smile

Another quick update, if you try this don't use titanium backup to restore everything as that messed a few things up (clearly something from 2.1 didn't work when ported into 2.2).

All reinstalled now and it's running fine, also installed a lag fix now and the phone is smooth as silk - seriously have to try it to believe it. Also after a clean install the battery is much better too.

Got a cool little battery mod off xda as well that replaces the stock battery icon with one that includes the battery percentage which removes the need for a separate battery app.

All in all very happy with Froyo so far, if the official release is better than this it will be worth the wait.

No probs mate, will send a PM shortly - how much info do you need? Are you happy with the process of flashing or should I go through the process?

Just noticed that two new Froyo builds have just been released, JPM and JP6 - this never ends! Think I'll leave those for now though, let the others do some testing before jumping in myself Smile

Is this "Froyo" thing a Samsung build or are other handsets likely to get an upgrade?

Froyo is a Android version, your Desire is probably running Eclair at the moment same as mine.

Gingerbread is rumoured to be due soon also and is meant to have a lot of cool features

No probs.

2tongues Is this "Froyo" thing a Samsung build or are other handsets likely to get an upgrade?
Froyo is just the name for android 2.2 so not device specific, but the ROMs I'm talking about (JPK for example) are specific to the Galaxy S. There looks to be just as much activity on the Desire forum as well though if you feel like experimenting:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=628

Has the Desire still not had its official upgrade to 2.2 then yet?

Well if Android keeps on bringing out latest versions and constant upgrades then surely it aint that good is it????
If I had to constantly await v1xxxx then v2xxxxx and all the alphabet numbers in between I would ditch that os and go to something more stable.
