Great memory guys and cheers Shahz for the link - although looking at those pics I have no idea what I'm looking at

Is this a job I can do or shall I just get it booked in? Btw if I start the car this morning and it's fine, will it all be back to normal or will the problem just come back if it isn't looked at?

Could be worth resetting the ecu first before doing anything else.

I suspect if its not seated properly it will probably be intermittent, or it could just be in need of a clean!......looking at Johns pics it shouldnt be too difficult to locate so you can see if its sitting right

Just took it out for a quick spin to see what's what and it seems fine, as you say clearly an intermittent thing. Don't trust it to take the car out though, no acceleration and twitchy brakes are fine at town speeds, but don't feel comfortable if the problem reoccurs at dual carriageway speeds...........

Would it be as simply that either your had your car jet wash and its slightly knock the sensor or heavy puddle?

It was very wet yesterday so I did suspect that might have been part of the cause, either way car's going in on Monday as no acceleration and twitchy brakes is no fun Smile

Only just seen this, but agree 100% with Phil and Pete. It will be wheel speed sensor related. On earlier Toyotas you can diagnose the ABS and TRC systems separately from the main ECU because they're standalone, but in the IS that's not the case. If the ECU had spotted a dodgy sensor then you'd get an engine warning light, but AFAIK the only way it can tell is if it is receiving no signal - receiving a different signal to the other wheels is exactly how the ABS and TRC systems work, so that wouldn't indicate duffness as far as the ECU is concerned.

Just a quick addition - if it was water related then my money would be on wiring damage in the wheel arch. The ring gear the sensor reads from is contained inside the hub on the front wheels which is almost completely impregnable, and I believe on the end of the drive shaft at the rear, again an unlikely place to get water in. The sensor in both cases is a VERY tight fit inside the hub and as far as I'm concerned well sealed.

Not 100% sure it is water related, but yesterday was very wet and the first time the car's been out in proper rain for quite a while - plus it was fine this morning after drying out.

Cheers for that, I'll report back after it goes in on Monday, for now the car can stay on the drive Smile
