Does the engine or gearbox provide any structural support to the car???

Like in some cars the engine can provide support to the front suspension or subframe.

And also what functions does the ECU run that you need to keep in the car after an engine swap????

No i dont believe the engine and gearbox have any structural support.

And functions: :off the top of my head: Air con, fuel gauge, abs

Thats interesting, going to have to speak to a few people as regards to costing then.

And it might sound a daft question, but how much does a 1g-fe weigh??
And if you put in a different engine can you mess up the handling do to the car balance been put out??

Putting in an engine with a different weight is bound to change the handling characteristics a bit. But how much I think is going to be impossible to quantify. e.g. if you swapped for a 2JZ then that would be much heavier.
