Not long home and knackered, but while driving to and from work I tried both I Phone HUD apps.

First the Dashboard free app. Very clear and easy to see speed, direction etc Uncluttered and uncomplicated and as already pointed out, nice touch that colours can be changed to suit Smile

Second, the A Smart HUD app for 59p. Has ALL the bells and whistles, speed, distance, time , weather alerts galore for speed cameras etc etc However... it means the display is cluttered, not clear and by the time you have looked for the little bit of info you wanted,... you have already crashed  So, as cool as its gadgets are, could only say it is fantatsic for speed camera alerts, so worth having if you needed that on occasions. Mind you, when it goes off, not saying there is a lot of sounds, but add a base beat and you have just got the next big clubbing track Big Grin

Out of the two, for sheer simplicity and been so easy to read, it has to be the free dashboard app for me :thumbup1:

I fail to see the point in this,

presumeably when you get a text or phonecall you have to reach forward whilst driving and sort it out again

and you already have a speedo, why have another one obsturcting your view?

then theres the faffing around to keep it in one place

bit of a fail imho

Errr, when you get a text you shouldn't really be reading it and phonecalls should be handled by some handsfree device.........:Fish:

Seriously though the advantages of a headup display are that you don't need to look down - key information is always in your line of sight.

As for securing the phone I'm sure some kind of magnetic phone holder should work fine Smile

what i meant was the phonecall/text will close or over shine on the app, rendering it useless until you reach forward and clsoe the text off etc,

Oh sorry mate, my bad :Chair:

Either way that's only a few seconds of losing the screen though, and on android anyway texts don't even pop up on screen, just in the status bar at the top.

I agree with that but have you ever tried a car with a proper HUD? It really is brilliant, it's not distracting at all and so useful, especially when it also gives you stuff like satnav directions Smile

It's at the bottom of the screen so not directly in your line of sight, it's just below it.
