You will need the v5 form to show your the owner of the car and they will either do it there and then or send you a new v5 with the new reg on. Here there link for more info

If you take the new plate to your nearest Dvla office they can help with the transfer of the plates for you.

01-10-2016, 12:59 AM #5Yeah you have to do two things, you have to buy the plate and you have to transfer it onto your car. Most number plate sellers will manage the whole thing if you want. Sounds like you have bought the plate but not done the other bit, so as Lexusboy said you'll have to sort that out, getting a new V5 and a new tax disc.

Dont forget to notify your insurance once this is all done.
Did you get the plate from a company that sells plates because as Steve said they normally do every thing for you.

You need to go to the dvla office nearest to you with the v5 and they will need your current tax disc to change the number plate to a new tax disc and then they either print a new v5 there and then or send that onto you.
Dont forget to notify your insurance once this is all done.
