Getting a new windscreen tomorrow
hock: Been reading that the replacement is a big job, and could be tricky to get it to seal properly. Hopefully the guy will know his stuff :blink:
Driving back from work on Monday and a stone flicked up from a passing lorry and hit my windscreen just above the tax disc. Got a chip the size of a £2 coin and a crack about 3 inches long. Drove into work yesterday and the crack was now 6 inches long. Phoned the insurance company who put me through to National Windscreens. The guy is coming to my house tomorrow afternoon to fit a new one, which is probably a good job as the crack is now about 10 inches long. With my journeys home today and then to work and home tomorrow, i reckon the crack might be about 16/17 inches long hock: Been reading that the replacement is a big job, and could be tricky to get it to seal properly. i've got a tiny one on mine luckily not in the danger zone and is only a chip as opposed to a crack.Hope you get it sorted soon

With the weather we're having, you should have plenty of opportunity to test it out. Or else you can of course pour a load of water onto it.

01-07-2016, 03:33 AM #3Yeah, you need to be wary. It does need sealing well and it's common for replaced windscreens to leak and cause electrical havoc !
With the weather we're having, you should have plenty of opportunity to test it out. Or else you can of course pour a load of water onto it.

Also there is a connector in the front of the windscreen which i think is the element if this is not hidden out the way of water this creates havoc on the electricks as i found out if i can get a chance i will take a pic of the location and you can make sure it gets put back correctly i acctually wrapped mine in PVC tape before i hid it again better safe than sorry..

It should have a double bead of glue round the whole screen to seal it right, and when its fitted mate check the height of the screen on both sides of the car by your a pillars, mine sat too high and the rubber trim came out a couple of times :wink:
National Windscreens might know how to do it properly as i used the RAC so hope it goes ok mate :thumbup1:

Make sure they remove the interior A pillar covers before they start mate or they will cut through them, did it to mine and they had to repair both of them? he did say though if he couldnt repair them he would get me a new set?

Try and get a OEM Toyota/Lexus windscreen (in fact insist they fit a OEM screen). I've heard that non Toyota/Lexus can cause fitting issues etc?

did you have to pay an excess for it?? i had to pay 60 years ago, and there never seems to be an option where you can change this
