the tests i've seen show a improvement over xp especially with top end hardware, on low end hardware i think performance tests are similar to that of xp.

I knew that was tempting fate - just had my first BSOD on the RTM and surprise surprise - it's the Intel Wireless driver at fault!

think a lot of the issues are due to no actual win7 specific drivers being out and having to use compatable drivers for vista/xp

These are actually specific Intel drivers which come on the Windows 7 DVD and are supposed to have passed WHQL testing, in this case I guess they didn't test them very well Smile

It looks like the problem is caused by the 64 bit drivers for Vista and 7 not being able to handle the device being put into powersave mode and then back out again - I've logged it with Intel so will see what they come back with - it reckons they normally get in touch within 2 days so will be good to see if they're on the ball Smile

ahh fair enough, can you not disable it from going into powersaving mode via device manager though?

Yeah I've done that mate, thing is there are tens of thousands of laptops out there with this same hardware configuration so they really need to nail this in the driver if they can Smile

Just managed to find the most up-to-date 64-bit driver Intel have for these cards - not sure why they're hidden away so well?!

Quite funny as these even have a bug with power management in them, it says in the read me to change some settings otherwise it saps battery life

I'm guessing from the sounds of it Intel engineering are having a hardtime writing stable power management code for this hardware :o
