EP82 very fast little car, just make sure you understand the workings of a turbo engine before you venture as a lot of people i know how bought just ragged them like N/A cars and wondered why they had bills for new turbos and engines etc. But apart from that very relaible car, parts are responsible and mods are plentaful. Good Buy in my opinion.
Highly recommended from me. Not sure what t sport you have - I have had a yaris t sport and corolla t sport in the past and much preferred the power delivery of the starlet. Give me a shout if you have any specific questions but if you buy a good one you will not regret it.
I have had 2 of the ep82s and also had a paseo with ep82 conversion and a later glanza ep91. Great fun to drive and also very easy and relatively inexpensive to modify. My last one was running 211bhp with td04 turbo conversion. Even standard at 133bhp they are still rapid due to only weighing about 780kg.

I have a corolla t sport, its a great car and I love it to bits but I have such a soft spot for these motors its unreal plus its makes financial sense too (I'm building a mortgage deposit atm so any money I can claw back is a good thing)
What sort of money do good ones change hands for? realistically for it to make financial sense my max budget would 2.5k.

Great little cars they are. I've never bought one, but considered it many times after having driven a couple. Personally prefer the newer Glanza, but they is not a lot between them.
As Rolex mentioned, some do get ragged, so try to find one with a known history and an enthusiast or mature owner, rather than an a 19 year old chav from the estate called Barry.

They make great financial sense - cheap to insure and tax and wont lose much if anything on depreciation. As said above you should get a decent one for your budget but might have to search for a while to get the right one. Maybe best to try and get one with the suspension sorted out already.

Go for a later GlanzaV,
You will find that the starlet GT is showing its age and will feel and look a 20 yr old car now, especially after the comfort and equipment levels of a E12 TS.
And after looking on Auto trader last night, you can pick up a face lift GlanvaV in white with-in your said budget.

Had a chat with Adrian Flux regarding insurance and they want a further £550 to change my insurance over and that would be for TPFT, fully comp would be an extra £900. This is based on a 95 GT with no modifications
I have too options
1) Keep my CTS and modify it (modifications are dead money)
2) Sell my CTS, buy a modified EP82 and put the change in the bank (I can see the change pretty much disappearing with the cost of insurance though)

I do like the Glanza V but I prefer the quad headlamp GT's, I love the retro look.
