Dark Samurai What's wrong with them?

Sh*te is too strong of a word, they're all right but I wouldn't buy one.

They're not much quicker than the CTS and they suffer from some very expensive problems i.e. superchargers going bang. Dealers know nothing about them either because they're a TTE car and TTE no longer exist.

I would seriously shop around for insurance quotes for the gt - £550 to change over seems ridiculous. Some of the standard on line ones such as admiral, elephant etc (both part of the same group) are usually good with gts - especially if you are staying stock .Also try sky ? compare the meerkat etc should be ok as well to input the details since most insurers now have the gt on their database -just make sure you tick the right box - ie import 1.3gt turbo etc.

Basically, I'd have to change insurance underwriter (via Adrian Flux) to insure the GT as the underwriter I'm with won't insure an import. So they'd cancel my policy and carry what I've already paid across to the new policy. For TPFT it was £1400 and fully comp it was £1800

I paid £1000 to insure my CTS in June so hence the £550 & £900 respectively (minus one months premium).

Just been on moneysupermarket.com and admiral have quoted me £1400 fully comp, I don't know how they feel about mods but I'd say Adrian Flux are a bit expensive there

To be honest I was expecting the insurance to be more or less the same between the GT and CTS so its kinda bollocksed my plans a bit there - the plan was to get some value back from car, not pay more ****** car insurance!

I really don't understand how a standard GT costs twice as much to insure as a CTS

Same reason why its cheaper to insure a Supra then an MR2. Supras are not cheap and therefore tend to be driven by older/more experienced drivers - MR2's are cheap as chips (£1500 for a 300BHP car cheap enough?) and tend to be driven by younger/less experienced drivers, who statistically crash a whole lot more. OK we could all point to several examples of older people driving the cheaper cars and crashing them a lot, and vica versa but those are some of the stats insurance companies see and use.

Insurance companies work off statistics not the same logic that we as car enthusiasts use.

Really???

Rather sweeping statements there, that I am not sure are true!

Why would it "go bang" unless you let it run out of oil?

My local dealer knows plenty about TTE! The company may no longer exist in it's original form, and I thought they had been known as TMG for quite a while now, but do believe them to still be in operation, but that doesn't mean that mechanics who worked with them for years suddenly forget everything they ever knew the moment a specific product is officially discontinued, does it?
