Saw some pics a guy did on the other side of his IS200 at night and it inspired me to get out the DSLR for the first time in ages.

I ventured out to the car park at the athletics track armed with my Sony DSLR, tripod, remote shutter release and a nice bright 6 LED torch.

It was difficult to get the settings right because it wasn't completely dark, so I had to keep adjusting things as it got darker, and just generally experimenting to get the right balance of light from the torch, and still manage to illuminate the car without making the background too light.

Anyway my session was cut short when some boy racers turned up and I decided to leave, but these are the 5 best ones...(if you look closely you'll see that picture 3 is actually the light pattern from picture 1 and 2 overlaid on Photoshop as I missed certain areas individually, but added together it looks brilliant!)

And pictures 4 and 5 were done in a semi street lit location after I moved away from the Fiesta crew, but still came out okay I think.

Yee basically because I've got the camera set to only let in small amounts of light, any objects I want to show up need to be either very bright (torch) or stationary long enough to reflect enough light to show up (the car). I made a point of dressing all in black so I didn't reflect light, and I was always moving so I become invisible to the camera :p

And the most important part...yes you can do it with whatever colour you want, even red Wink

And I haven't made any arrangements for JAE, probably getting a bit late now?

The first 3 were all done with a 20 second exposure and f/3.5

And the last two were 10 second exposure with f/10

And all with the same 18mm lense setting.

I found for the dark shots 20 seconds was perfect, initially I couldn't get the car to show up (especially hard because its black) so I spent the first 8-10 seconds just standing behind the camera shining the torch all over the car so it was picked up on the sensor, and the remaining time then just waving the torch around the car for the light effects.

Very nice mate! Hope the place you did it was deserted, as you must have looked like a bit of a fairy prancing round the car with a light in your hand :p
