northernmonkey I'd love to know which MOT tester gives advisories for brake fluid and a coolant change, just so I can stay away from them!
Jeez......

davidjamesbattersby what i was trying to figure out is did they test for this or just say, as there is ways and devices that you can use to check what the moisture content is in the brake fluid, iv never known this be checked on a mot so was just a bit puzzled with them giving you a advisory for this as its a quiet time for some garages and they might just be trying to get some work out of you, when people hear that there might be some thing wrong with your brakes as a example they panic and day just do the work needed

thats ok then, every car has the potential to absorb mosture, even brand new ones what you need to know is at what stage is your brake fluid at now, and as for the coolant go to a local motor factors and give them your reg number, they will be able to tell you what anti freeze you need and then follow instructions on the back, i normaly use 50/50 mix so once drained flush through with hose then fill up with right mix( always handy to premix ) then run engine at idle with heater on hot and face vents open til it blows hot and leave it running to allow any air locks to escape, once hot air coming out you know the thermostat is open and should be ok then

i wouldnt use chemical flush either, id just drain, flush then refill with new antifreeze, auto data says its 7.1 so 3 and half ltr off both then just run it till its up to temp with the radiator cap off to allow any air bubbles and air locks to escape
hi your brake fluid wuold of been checked for boiling point 155 degrees is the lowest point for a recomended chhange really you want it over 200 the lower the boiling point the more water in it and two years is just a recomended time to change the boiling point they found will be recorded on the sheet they shod of gave you as for the coolant chage is easy to do if you can be bothered although it is not that cheap to buy a good quality one hope this helps and clears things up a bit for you
