Hi, I've just got back from a business trip to the states but due to the strict timelines I've had, I didn't get a spare moment to pull up this thread.
Glad to see you're on your way to fixing your Throttle body, I was quite shocked when i saw how much a sensor was from toyota.
And well done for finding that online manual, I must have an old link. I've got the manual on CD so i rarely need to look at the online one.

Yeah TPS are always expensive from Toyota, one of those bits you hope you don't have to replace (like lambda sensors)! Whatever you do, DON'T take it off, they are a right pain to recalibrate. I'd be amazed if it is actually buzzing as all it is is a potentiometer on the end of the throttle shaft and a switch that engages when the throttle is closed. Much more likely it's the throttle motor which is buzzing.

You can hear the noise I'm talking about clearly in the video, and I'm pretty sure it's that sensor, because if I unplug it the noise goes away. And if I tap it I can hear the noise fluttering slightly.

But if the internals of the sensor are as you described it is indeed strange that it would make a noise like that :confused:

So how about TPS has failed, sending duff info to the ECU so it thinks the throttle is always open (IDL switch not engaging?), so it's constantly running the throttle motor to try and close it?

As much as I was convinced the sensor was making the noise, that would be a much more plausable explanation. Especially as I've said along that the sound is like electrical resistance i.e. trying to run a drill slowly at very high torque creates the same sort of whining noise.

EDIT: I did assume that the sensors would be in specific positions, so I'm gunna swap over the whole throttle body. So the ECU should just learn the new positions and carry on as normal Smile

I dont think it will IIRC, you need to use a OBDII plug to a laptop program so you can see throttle position then move it to 0 i think

you are chasing a fault that is not there...

The noise is normal - its a servo and every IS does it, inc the little chattering.

The cable drum is not firmly connected to the butterfly.

Surely there must be something wrong with it, I can't believe Lexus would have intentionally designed a throttle body system with so much delay in the response?

Just in case I am on a wild goose chase though, I will wait until after the Ace Cafe Meet before I do anything with it. That way I can stick my head under a few peoples bonnets and see what theirs do.

Plus if what Stav said is correct, swapping them over won't be a simple task anyway.
