I think that the engine has been sat for a long time on it's side as one half of the engine is a lot dirtier than the other, it is all covered in oil and it is extremely stubborn. I have tried Auto glym engine cleaner and now Gunk de greaser but its not shifting it very easily.
Can anyone give me any advice one what I can use to clean the engine up fully?

Hi All, not sure if this is the right section I am looking for some advise, I have fully stripped my V8 engine and am gradually cleaning it all before I rebuild it.

Rolex get yourself a mini snad blaster/shot blaster you can get the quite cheap now.
That will shift it.
I wouldnt recommend it, youll struggle to get the sand out completely and itll end up in the engine

Depends on whether he really has 'fully stripped' it. If it's down to the bare block it could be bead blasted but there's still the risk of getting silicon beads in the oilways if you haven't got adequate flushing kit. If the oil has been burnt on there's not much else will clean it off except perhaps phosphoric acid with a good rinse with water after dwell time and agitation.

Have you tried a wire brush followed by wire wool??
