I've recently secured a good long term job, i was thinking of upgrading to a rev3 mr2.
however ive spent a bit of time on the net, seeing what else tempts me. it can be a pain having 2 seats, if me and amy ever take my dog anywhere she has to drive her car. I want something that handles well in all weather, goes like s**t off a shovel, tunable and looks the part.
I've wittled my options down to a late '90s subaru impreza sti. i know there are some scooby haters on here, but if anyone could tell me the pros and cons that would be great, as i dont know much about them.
or any other cars that could be a good option? my budget will be around £2.5-3k

Mr2 rev1 Turbo; decat, mongoose exhaust, blitz induction, gizzmo ms-ibc ebc@1bar, aftermarket intercooler, grooved front discs

Pros: power, handling, easy access to parts.

Cons: Interior sucks big time, most have been thrashed to an inch of their existence, image, high insurance, not as reliable as an Evo when tuned IMHO - many have been badly modded by Halfrauds drive bys, not good on fuel - MR2 is better I believe and finally and probably most important: not a Supra.

I had a smoker for a week or 4 would have cost a fortune to get right again. I am not a hater of them just not a lover.

I have noticed the interiors all look quite shagged, is the insurance considerably more than an mr2 turbo?

mr2tubbyben I've recently secured a good long term job

Glad to hear that.

As for a car I dunno what to suggest really, how about a Mazda RX8?
5 doors so easy to get the dog in and out.
Should have pretty good power output.
The rotary engine should be able to give you a nice base to work on too if the RX7 is anything to go by?

Might not be great in the snow but then again, MR2's aren't fantastic.

matt-thanks for the advice, i love the rx8's, but almost double my budget!
celica gt4 is another option, again i dont know much about them other than the 3sgte engine. although i do prefer the looks of the mr2..
just feels like i could spend a fortune on my rev1 mr2 or get something else that has everything i want.
thanks for the advice everyone, i'll keep browsing:thumbup1:

I've just had a look at gt4's on pistonheads..can get a nice low mileage one for around £2.5k.
anyone who's owned/driven an mr2 and a gt4, can you explain the differences, performance and handling wise. does the engine being at the front have any effect? probably a stupid question but if i never ask i'll never know!
