OK so driving to work today and the battery light came on, thought i know that sign i wont stop ill get to work then stop as i suspect it wont start again and hey what do you know it didnt lol

so there are 2 factors at play here is the alternator knackered if so great lol

or

is it just the battery which since i have had the car has gone flat once, i suspect its more the battery but my journey each day is a 45min - hour trip so im surprised that didn't give it enough juice......

So anyway what battery would be best to get for this beast lol halfords don't list a stagea battery so cant just click and reserve im pretty sure its the same as in a skyline but will need to check which one unless someone else knows.....

Match the cranking Amps on the label - IF there is still one there, then obviously make sure the terminals are the same way around. If there isn't a label there then I would go for a Skyline one - its a safe bet they are the same.

Sounds silly but Nissan (like Toyota are) will probably be cheaper then Halfords for batterys.

You know how to test the Alternator I assume?

just been out and started the car it managed to start under its own steam, however when the car is running it seems there is just under 12v being dumped into the battery however this is a 1996 car im wondering if need to rev it for the alternator to out put any current bit hard when its just me lol

Get your multi meter out Rabs. You can test charge voltage at the cigarette lighter socket - not ideal but doable.

no your right so based on my previous statement i went out armed with multimeter and played with the throttle body etc

sure enough no power getting from a - b there is 12v just about present but no chargy chargy

however i did make a rooky error which i have never done before i have auto locking doors on a certain RPM well i was out side the car with the door open should have been fine except the door got blown shut and dint notice so i managed to lock the keys in car whilst it was running and had shut the bonnet now thats a secure car lol......

Anyway 20min later i now have the keys outside the car and its off to the garage after a jump start for a new alternator there goes this months profits.....

Your not fitting it yourself?

Is the auto box affected by removing power from its ECU? Some auto boxes need to re-learn their shift points after battery removal. Thus the invention of the OBD2 connected battery saver device.
