Do you have to take the cams out?

I've just bought a tool from the US that holders the lifter down so you can pop the shim out with the cams in place.

Ps. Shout me if you need any shims before you buy them. I have to do my engine next but I have 2 engines worth of shims so I may have a spare? Apparently their nearly £10 each!?

Shim under bucket Sad Thanks for the offer, if you're doing yours too then maybe some of my old ones will be useful to you... presuming they're the same diameter.

At least it means I can't flip the shims out at high revs though I guess! I'm gonna get a price for going shimless too but that will be a lot I imagine (I've looked into it before).

Not looking forward to doing all 32 valves...

Still haven't got around to doing the valves, work's been mental this week. Meguiars meet tomorrow and then maybe some engine time on Sunday...

Good news is that now all the bits coming from the US have touched down in the UK and cleared customs! 1 parcel is on its way to me (which I think will be the driveshaft and the diff brace) and the other one is waiting on customs charges which I can't sort out until Monday. That plus Hurricane has finally got my sump after the delivery people stopped being morons. Slowly edging forwards...

Oops! Sorry, missed a couple of pages out when reading it.
RX-7 is a wicked idea. What the weight differance though between a V8 and 13b?

There isn't much different, the rotary engine alone is light but then it has 2 turbos and cast iron manifolds attached to it, whereas the v8 is mostly aluminium.

The v8 will sit fairly high up and further forward than the rotary though.

I looked into this and the fully laden 13b (with the rats nest) only weighs slightly less than the 1uz because of its alluminium block it is an extremely light engine, the 1uz when coupled with an r154 gearbox weighs 220kg and the 13b with gearbox is 186kg not a huge amount in it and if you change the inlet manifold and a few other bits that sheds a lot of weight
