reco2k Where did you buy the plate from? Going to do the same on mine so I can run an oil cooler and keep the filter in an easy to change location

I bought it from a place called xcessive engineering or something like that. There are a few you can buy online - lextreme have one that's not tapped, and there are some from Australia too. I even found a drawing someone had done for getting your own one machined.

I chose the xcessive one because it keeps the factory gasket (an o ring in the shape of an 8) in the same recess as the stock part. Interestingly they make manual gearbox conversion parts too... I will see what the quality of the oil plate is like before I consider those though.

No but they have a UK distributor who I've totally forgotten the name of. The bloke bought my RX7 turbo pack, I'll see if I can find it out.

I think it's a bit deceptive, because they give you individual prices for all the parts. By the time you consider postage and import tax it's pretty similar to Thor's offering.

Right, had a productive day today. First off was taking all the old oil cooler and filter mount - it mounts to the oil pump so it's getting changed anyway but I thought I'd take it off to see what it all looks like and how it works.

The offending item:

Now as you can see there's a coolant pipe that comes off the cooler that feeds back into the block. It connects to the tap that you use for draining the coolant out of the block. With the cooler removed this will just be an open pipe... but never fear! The one on the other side of the block doesn't have that pipe on it, and I've got some of those on the spare block:

Oil pressure sensor needs to stay, it screws into the top of the relocation plate:

Mount removed to reveal the send and return points from the oil pump:

All this ditched from the block:

After that I took the hideous sideskirts off the car. Fortunately they weren't hiding any nasty surprises!

So after that was done I took off all the stock parts that are replaced as part of the engine fitting kit:

Propshaft, diff brace and front subframe. Here's the old diff brace/powerplant frame and the new one next to each other:

Took the steering rack off the front subframe and fitted it to the tech2 subframe, just to double check fitment and clearance:

And if you look down the transmission tunnel you can see shiny new parts!

I've got all the dimensions of the gearbox noted down, so I can knock up something the same size to sit in the space now that all the mounts and the prop are there. That will help with sorting out engine mounts!

Cheers lads. I need to get some photos of the underneath, especially the transmission tunnel. You would not believe it was 19 years old!!
