My Indecisive 4.0 V8 1UZ-FE Project
Finally managed to get back in the workshop this weekend after it had been flooded! Most of my time was spent helping the guy I share with prepping one of his VW camper vans for a respray but I did manage to finish priming the inlet manifold, fuel rails and timing belt covers. I'd have done more but I ran out of etch primer! I've cleaned up the water bypass parts and thermostat housing ready for priming, so I'll prime those and spray the parts that are ready tomorrow night. I've set up a sort of production line for all these paint jobs so when one lot are finished the next lot are ready etc.
Have had a bit of a nightmare with the oil filter relocation plate - because I got it from the states, the threads are all american standard threads (NPT), and all the Jap parts (oil pressure senders, and most of the filter relocation kits you can buy over here) are either BSP or JIC thread types, all of which are incompatible. Fortunately Earls performance were able to help me out with some adaptors and they're only based just around the corner at Silverstone which is handy!
So now I have this (this is the new oil pump resting on the spare engine):
Which means I can now just use any off the shelf oil filter relocation kit like the ones from Mocal or Driftworks, and just use my plate with -10 fittings on it rather than the sandwich plate that the kit would provide.
I plan to drop the engine about another 30-50mm when I redo the engine mount brackets, so there is no way in hell the oil filter + arm would have fit!
Sorry John but I had to laugh when I saw the caption and then the fuel line picture
Keep at it mate!
toxo Nothing to see here until after Le Mans.
Still to go:
Gearbox
Gearbox rear mount
Gearbox fitting kit
Auto Diff
Mishimoto radiator & fan kit
New front ARB mounts (mine are mangled and have had the radiator mounts cut off)
Driftworks oil filter relocation & cooling kit
Driftworks power steering cooling kit
Exhaust... more on that later
I could do with replacing the driver's door and the bootlid too, if anyone happens to find a silver RX7 being broken...
