Right....

Say for instance I had a 1uzfe ECU from an LS400 and wanted to put said engine in my IS200, I assume I'd be able to use the LS400 ECU to get the engine running and provide information to the dash etc?

I'd expect to lose things like traction control etc. but would this be enough to look after the LS400 gearbox and everything else that would allow the car to run (until a standalone was installed).

If I had the wiring diagrams for both cars, is this going to be particularly hard work?

Nope as the dash is hugely different. You'll need both ecus working side by side.

I reckon youll be staring at the wiring diagrams for a long time to figure it out.

Wouldn't I need to duplicate inputs to both ECU's to do that? Also, any idea where the speed sensor is on an LS400? The is200 one is on the back of the gearbox isn't it?

Edit: Not bothered about the RPM calculation being wrong for now, just need a working speedo and fuel gauge. Temp would be handy as well as the fans need to run.

Speeds not a problem, as the ecu recieves the signal from the dash that receives it from the gearbox. As long as whatever gearbox you fit has a speed sensor your fine.

Rpm comes from the ecu to the dash so that's easily done provided the ecu has an rpm output.

Temps a no as its sent to the dash via an mpx signal the LS ecu won't be able to send. Same with fuel level, and aircon)
You'll lose the immobiliser as well I reckon.

Could I run the fuel level via the is200 ecu? Would it also not be possible to keep the immobiliser alive with the IS200 ecu as well, provided it has power? Not sure how it's wired up to the ignition circuit in an IS.

AC isn't such an issue for now, the link ecu should be able to deal with that eventually.

The link ecu can't really deal with the aircon without a bit of complex wiring.

The immobiliser is built into the ecu. So running the engine from the LS one will render it useless.

And you'll need some clever wiring again to keep the fuel gauge working when the LS ecu is running the engine.

I'm not saying it can't be done, after all they worked on my car but i had standalone and IS ecu not LS and IS. But it's simpler to remove the offending items, dash, immobiliser etc and replace with aftermarket items.

When you move to complete standalone you'll have to lose these items anyway.

I take it your aircon isn't working then? I don't want to have to go syvecs because I could go and buy an IS300 for the price of that ECU.

edit: I reeeeeeeally don't want to lose the IS200 dash, it's my favourite part of the car haha. Might replace it for an IS350 dash though, as I'll need gear indicators.

The aircon did work with the old setup. However I've removed it now, the pump had to go to fit the alternator because of the new manifold and the pipework looked ugly so that had to go, and losing the rd saved weight. All in all a good thing lol. And ive the sunroof and windows for hot days.

I still want to keep mine fairly luxury, so the aircon has to stay Big Grin

Ok mate, thanks for the answers thus far, I'll investigate further regarding the LS400 ecu and I will be back to pick your brains about running both ecu's at once.
