You mean the VVTi lump on the end? I assumed it was the same as the 1G-FE (and while I appreciate you don't have one of those, you did once lol)

That's not complicated, you should see the inside of an ls460 lump

Did some more today. Rebuilt the other intake camshaft, took some more photos in detail this time. There is so much oil in these!! It's amazing how much just keeps coming out.

Timing controller removed from camshaft:

Helical gear to drive exhaust cam removed:

You have to do this to change the cam seal... That's the new one on in that photo.

With new seal on, it goes on the end of the cam:

Got a pin so you can't **** it up:

Then it's held on with a hex bolt in the end. Undoing and doing this bolt up is a pain in the ****. It makes the timing mechanism rotate so it ejects all the old oil out onto the bench. You also have to grip the cam with a flat edge that's on it (that was in the vice in the last post) but it's done up way too tight for the vice to hold it while you undo it. So I wrapped it all up in loads of bubblewrap and a towel and hoped that would be soft enough!

It's got a weird crush washer (new one in photo) which is rubber around the inside and copper on the outside.

All back together:

Also cleaned up the massive end cam cap, which houses the cam seal and the helical gears:

Then I went to see Die Hard, and stopped off at Earls for some fuel rail fittings and Silverstone Factors for some assembly lube. When I got back to the unit there was no power! Can't work out where the fault lies (will be rain related) so the landlord is on it and I'll go back tomorrow.

I did manage to -6 AN my fuel rails. The bolts that block the end are M14x1.5 and the fuel pulsation damper thingies are M12x1.25. I notice that the M12 fitting I've got has a larger I/D than the pulsation damper did.

Yeah, they are only round the corner too as they are based at Silverstone. Expensive but you know it's not gonna leak!

Nothing to report today, spend the day working on the Nissan and cleaning up the unit (and restoring power!) instead.

So here's a photo of my very girly pink injectors instead, which were cleaned up and serviced by injectortune.

Tomorrow I'm gonna get some more hammerite and paint the ARB/radiator brackets and the big cam caps, and some of the timing belt covers. Then I'll sort the timing out and get the belt on!

toxo Tomorrow I'm gonna get some more hammerite and paint the ARB/radiator brackets and the big cam caps, and some of the timing belt covers. Then I'll sort the timing out and get the belt on!

Well that didn't happen due to having no f**king power AGAIN! Seems to be resolved now so last night and tonight I finished cleaning up the heads, did some painting and got the bottom end back to TDC so I can sort out the timing.

Took the spark plugs out so I could turn the crank (it was 180 degrees out in the end). They've definitely seen better days, ends are all black as hell.

Plugs from the ends of the heads which are covered in burnt oil and sealant. 1 cleaned 1 not:

One head cleaned. I'm removing most of the oil deposits, not because I want to unlubricate the engine but mainly because any fluff/corrosion/blu roll that's fallen in there is stuck in the oil. I also cleaned up the mating surface with the cam cover and removed all the FIPG from the big cam/timing cap at the belt end.

This one's not cleaned, you might have to open the image up big to see but there's loads of **** in there!

And lo, now it's clean:

Did some spraying too, the black plastic covers all look tired so gave them some gloss black, and the big cam/timing caps the same as the rest of the top of the engine, as they stand out unpainted:

ARB/radiator mounts getting some hammerite love:

Also for Stav here's the shim-under-bucket setup.

Popped the bucket up:

Bucket out:

Shim inside bucket. Yours would be no use Sad

Random, prevents the shims popping out or cracking under high power I suppose.
