OK, so this is what I did to the ECU... I was trying to make it power up and give me a warning light, switch the circuit opening relay on etc. But some of the circuits ground through the engine and the engine isn't connected to it. So, I got a handful of old pins I'd removed from the harness, soldered the wires together and connected 1 end to the chassis and the other end into the sockets on the ECU that normally go to the engine. However I made a mistake and counted the pins from the wrong side!

I needed pins B1, B17, C21 and C31 but because I was counting left to right instead of right to left (looking at it from the connector point of view not the ECU point of view) I got pins B7, B24, C10 and C22. I got a spark when I connected them to ground so I know one of them was +ve... those pins are PRG for the carbon canister VSV, VVL- which is the negative side of the left VVT sensor, G2 which is the positive side of the camshaft position sensor and NE- which is the shared negative/ground for the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors. So, power has come out of G2 and into PRG which I don't care about, and VVL- and NE-, both of which I need to run the engine. It made a fizzing noise so I would guess I've fried something but hopefully it will just be a pullup resistor - the ECU has the immobiliser shiz in it so I don't want to have to buy another one as that will basically mean buying another LS400.

Yeah, standalone would be the way to do it. There are ECUs on ebay but they never include the key so they are useless...

Not done much as concentrating on the Nissan for a while. So while you're waiting have a photo of my cleaned up alternator and power steering pump.

Exciting stuff!

Got this from the states today...

I could just put a KPH/MPH converter chip on. But they cause problems - I'll have an odometer that's partly in KM and partly in M, and I'll have no KPH scale on my speedo which is a problem when driving in Europe. My mental maths isn't that great.

This speedo has both scales, and the odometer runs in miles. You can convert a JDM odometer to display in miles (and it displays the correct mileages) by moving a few resistors, but that doesn't get around the KPH/MPH scale.

All I need to do now is move 1 8 pin chip from my JDM speedo to this one, to retain the correct mileage for my chassis, and job done Smile

A UK speedo would have done the trick but they are a bit of a pain to find!

Fitted the US speedo, unsoldered my odometer chip from my JDM one and moved it over. Can't test it yet as I've no ignition circuits in the car but it all looks solid.

Fitted my aeromotive fuel pump. I'm still missing part of the hanger but I guessed where it should go. The bit I'm missing screws on anyway so I can fit it at a later date. I uprated the wiring to PTFE lined 10AWG to match what's in the car, and SAE30R10 fuel hose, had to drill holes in the hanger for the wiring! This addresses 2 issues with the aeromotive pump... the stock wiring isn't quite up to the job and there are some reported cases of the fuel hose melting shut. I've been told they have addressed these issues but better safe than sorry!

Then I cracked on sorting out the wiring loom in the engine bay, removing the ABS and fan wiring, all the unnecessary **** left over from the rotary. Got rid of 3 fuse boxes (one of which was full of TIGER SEAL!!!) and got the bundle of wires that goes across the front of the engine bay down from ~60 to about ~10 wires. Still tracing most of the rest back to the cabin for battery & fusebox relocation.

ah the joys of wiring,

some sensible upgrades on the fuel system as well.
