IS300 project
IS300 project
Forgot to mention; we've also had a crack at diagnosing my manual mode auto box issue. It appears to be an open connection somewhere, so we'll be checking the wiring at some point, which will hopefully solve the issue.
Just added these to the shopping list:
Not for any practical reason, I just feel like green + carbon will look pimping.
Ormi's got a carbon bonnet on his green IS - looks sweet...
I've decided on the direction I'm going to take this IS;
1.5JZ using a complete 1JZ-GTE VVTi head and stock VVTi 2JZ-GE bottom end. The target for the car is 400hp with the biggest torque band possible. I'm entirely after response for this car, top end will be compensated for by gearing.
This has a few benefits:
* I don't need to re-register the car, as the engine block is the same. I gain all the good bits about a BEAMS engine without technically doing an engine swap.
* The vvti 1J is exceptionally well designed for a street engine, in stock form it hits peak torque by 2400rpm.
* cheap turbo kit for the 300, all designed to be turbo from the factory
* ridiculously wide torque curve
* there are examples of vvti 1jz's running on an IS300 ecu and an emanage
The shopping list for the car is now (in no particular order):
* Megasquirt MS3 pro plug and play ECU
* Megashift auto gearbox controller
* 1JZ vvti head
* Kinugawa Garrett cold side and cartridge for slightly higher flow (sufficient for ~450hp)
* Intercooler
* A761e 6 speed auto transmission
* 3" turbo back, standard back box
* sports cat
* BOV
* uprated fuel pump, but a quiet one (no I'm not running a fuel return, unless the stock 1jz set up requires one)
* probably need bigger injectors, this is an unknown right now as I'm not sure what the injector size is or where the limit is on the stock set up.
The list of things to do for the rest of the car:
* LED ring rear skyline mod
* LED angel eyes, I've got some plans here to use a microcontroller to give me ring indicators using RGB LEDs. I intend to make these rings myself using acrylic tubes, similar to how the BMW rings use them to "contain" the light.
* Projector HID headlights, this is an easy one on the IS300 lights and will be completely MOT compliant.
* Carbon lip spoiler, carbon mirror covers & carbon grille, I'm fitting a TTE front bumper this weekend, so it will eventually be modified to accept the standard sport grille
* IS200 steering wheel + paddle shift kit, I'm undecided on this as I can get the standard 300 gear shift buttons to act as paddles with the megashift controller. Paddles would be simply for bling.
* OEM IS300 floor mats, if I can find any.
* Aero sideskirts
* chargespeed rear bumper without the diffuser, in green + matte black lower section.
* Vertex vented front arches
* wheels (if anyone has any ideas on this, do put some pictures up as I need inspiration). I'd still like a set of LF-A replicas.
ICE:
* 7" tablet install into sat nav unit, this will link to the app-radio I've got installed so the two 7" screens should control one another and look as if they were meant to be there from the factory.
* Digital dash display on the tablet for gear, RPM, AFR and a few other things.
* underseat sub is going back in some time soon
* wifi/3G install to turn the car into an access point, basically to network everything and allow permanent internet inside the car. This is for some future ideas that I have for the car and will remain under wraps for now. This will also allow me to sync music between my phone and the car.
Long term plans:
ITB's + plenum
Exhaust valve to control noise (fun mode on/off)
one touch on all windows
Carbon roof panel/sunroof delete
