How to tell if your IS200 has an LSD or not
This is a common question, regarding how to tell if a particular IS200 has a limited-slip diff or not. This can be tricky, e.g. Sport models should have them, but it's not always obvious if a car is a Sport or is an S/SE with added bits.
The sure way to tell is to check the manufacturer's VIN plate, located on the bulkhead at the back of the engine bay. Here's a picture of mine :
The bottom line is the relevant one here. This is a coding that represents the paint code/trim/transmission etc. The specification of the "axle" is represented by the third group of characters. It will say either A02A or A02B. If it says "A" it's an open diff, and "B" means it's an LSD. Mine says "A02B" so it has an LSD.
Just for interest, on mine the first bit is the paint code (1C0 - Platinum Ice), I don't know what the second bit is for, think it's the trim (LB20), the third bit is the "axle" (above), and the fourth bit is the gearbox (J160 manual gearbox).
Of course, all this is about whether your car has a factory-fit LSD. It's possible that someone could have changed the diff as an after-market modification.

Moley Ok but how would you know if it was not attached to a car and say it was on ebay or in a breakers

yip because of the type of diff turning one side and watching for the other side going the same way doesn't work...unless you can spin it very very fast.lol
Sparkystav the only way is to take the back off and have a look mate
