front suspension top mounts
front suspension top mounts
For the OEM suspension ? Have they rusted up or something ? Which bit exactly do you need ?
You would probably be better off getting one from a breaker's. e.g. part of the upper mount is about £60 from Lexus/Toyota ?
thanks steve-you are correct i just rang lexus- £58 inc vat each - i will be hoping mine are fine-it has been suggested to me they could be the cause of the slight knock on my car so i was going to get them done at the same time as shocks and droplinks-but at that price and having spent £300 on knock/handling issues i will be keeping my fingers crossed theyre not needed-just would really like all problems resolved by the time i leave wim as ive got a lot of other things going on in life and am hoping to stop spending time and money fixing this car and instead start gettting some use and enjoyment from it -- fingers crossed-thanks
I would get the shocks and droplinks done first, I bet those will cure your knocking problems.
my knocking was caused by my worn anti-roll bar links:thumbup1:
so i should be ok then ? spoke to lex this morning and they said they have changed hundreds of shocks and droplinks but not ever topmounts - kinda does beg the question why not when theres obviously a lot of is owners past and present who live with these little "knocks" and cant get them cured for long periods (years sometimes if all the writing on L*C is written is earnest)
To be honest i can't see the top plate actually knocking on the IS200/300 as it's basically a metal plate on top of a big rubber that sits on top of the spring, which is bolted to the centre section of the strut itself?
On my is200 i changed the Anti roll bar rubbers due to them being worn out and soft(9 years old?), you could see the arb moving in them and pushing the arb upwards when steering then it dropped again which caused a clunk, the arb seemed to jump and clunk as you moved the steering left or right,
With the new bushes and drop links mine was great, no more clunking sounds,
When your at WIM see if they'll turn the wheels for you full lock left to right, while you stand under the car when its up on the ramp and watch the arb at the front, mine slid from side to side in the bushes and seemed to lift then drop causing it to clunk when the steering was straightened up?
This is where i got my bushes from CLICK ME?
cheers bandit, that kinda reassures me-i spoke to tony at wim about arb bushes and he said he would check them when its on the ramp-he also said it would not affect his geo settings if they get replaced after geo when i get back to brighton which kinda de-stressed me as wim dont stock and lexus said they may struggle to get them in by thursday-it took them 8 days to get me a new gearknob-i just hate goin into some area-ie suspension and not bein thorough enough and having to do the same jobs twice-but from what you and lexus say i should be ok with what i have---- except that i tend to work within the confines of "murphys law" when it comes to cars ie "whatever can go wrong, will go wrong" its a special kinda luck i inherited but once you recognise it and plan accordingly you make your own luck which is usually better
Yeah I think a lot of "knocking noise" problems are to do with ARBs, whether it's the drop links or the bushes.
