thanks boys I will give that a go, is that the same as getting it reset with a diagnostics tool cause it has been reset more than a few times with a diagnostic tool?

also does anyone know who might know abit more about these input speed sensors and what symptoms they have when they are not working properly?

jayse-its worth disconnecting the battery for 10 mins - that should reset both ecu,s i think theres a chance no one has reset the gearbox ecu on yours since your troubles started although granted your engine one has been done repeatedly.
its easy to do and could in theory cure your problems although realistically i doubt it-but for the time it takes its worth it as this could be all you need to do to get your car going !!
failing that you will have to get the senser somewhere

How to clear the code p0715.
Buy new sensor from Dealership

5 minutes start to finish to replace the sensor.
This is a rough guide for most vehicles to change these sensor

First I disconnected the battery. Then unclip the wire plug from the old sensor and move it aside, then brake the sensor loose with your socket, then you can hand loosen it the rest of the way. Screw in the new one, tighten with the socket, reclip on the wire plug and you're done.

Re apply the battery
After doing all of this the error codes cleared themselves, the check engine light should go off by itself. you could hook up my ODBII scanner to verify this and also checked the ready codes.

Igniter circuit malfunction no 5 might mean you need to replace the coil pack on number 5 cylinder can anyone else confirm this?

jayson2323 is it normal that their are 2 diagnostic points, 1 in the engine and one in the car or is it just on autos it is like this?

The one in the engine is the old proprietary Toyota diagnostics connector, the one inside the cabin is the newer OBD-II port.

See this page for a description of the P0715 code, and how the speed sensor works. This also shows how to test the transmission input speed sensor.

This page shows how to locate it and replace it. I think it costs less than £100 - but could just need cleaning or similar ?

How can a garage get away with saying it's the throttle body, replacing that and charging you for it, and then not refunding you when it didn't fix the problem ? I would get Trading Standards involved.

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

cheers stevie thats really useful - just to clarify, jason took his car to two different garages originally when it intermittantly stopped running for no apparent reason and both times was given differing codes-i must admit it was at my suggestion that he take it to a lexus main dealer for diagnosis(i didnt know they charge for that service),anyway i believe he got a diagnosis from lexus that the throttle body was causing all his problems and quoted about £1100 to fix - a price jason could not really afford to pay-he took his car away and confident the problem was at least now correctly identified managed to source a 2nd hand throttle assy in gwo from a member on here at a good price (big thanks to stav for responding and fast postage)
Jason had these parts fitted and the problem appears to have got worse if anything(personally i think there now has to be a doubt over the throttle assy diagnosis from lexus as the original problem is still there but now more consistant ie everytime the car reaches 40mph whereas before it only stopped occasionally.
I certainly feel it sounds like you get good and bad main dealers and the one jason has had the misfortune to live near sound particularily unhelpful-mine by comparison cannot do enough for me and are willing to help on every level so far (BIG PLUG FOR LEXUS BRIGHTON)
so you see lexus are not going to be responsible for jasons problems - i believe they no longer even wish to discuss things on the phone with him !!! this seems stupid to me because they are letting down a customer and a potential future one who obviously likes the lexus brand.
So jason you dont seem to be on here this morning so i hope you are having success if you are working on the car-it does sound like the speed sensor could cure most of your problems for you-keep us posted on results and steve thanks for your input, hopefully you have a clearer picture of how events unfolded

thanks Lexusboy, I spoke to lexus and they have a sensor for £70 which I will get from them. Would I be able to borrow your obdII scanner?

thanks Stevie for the links

I know about the garages getting away with all of it, they say that is what codes are coming up from the car so I dont know how to approach it with regards to trading standards and I have taken it to quite a few different ones which is my fault
