Tyres
For standard wheels, i know the standard tyre size is 215/45/17 but i was wondering if people have put lower profile tyres on and what it looks like, i know the ride will be harsher but bar the 215/45/17s have people used either 215/40/17 or even as low as 205/45/17 or 205/40/17 hock:
You need to also bear in mind the overall tyre circumference, because this will affect the accuracy of your speedo. The differences that your speedo will read compared to standard will be as follows :
215/40 : -3.44%
205/45 : -1.44%
205/40 : -4.72%
The first and third are a bit too much of a difference really, in that your you will be going that many % slower in reality compared to what your speedo is saying. The one in the middle is not too much of a difference, just a narrower tyre which is therefore more stretched to fit.
if you lower the profile ie 45 to 40 it will look a bit silly as the wheel to arch ratio will be bigger ie more of a gap between the tyre and the arch making the car look really high
the same goes for a 215 to 205 the tyre will be thinner their for making the wheel look smaller in the arch
so both of the above wouldn't be a good idea......
What kind of tyres have you got on at the mo? If you get one with a decent rim protector they pull away from the rim quite a bit making the profile look a bit smaller
Also what i wanted to ask you all is what tyres are you running as i know and have read that certain tyres and certain thread patterns make herndous round noise, as my dad encountered when he bought his IS and as soon as he changed them the noise went
Im just running, budget 215/45/17's at the moment mate as the 2 backs are brand new and and i dont want to change them until iv had the geo set up done,
I have Toyo T1-R tyres, no complaints at all. I don't recall anyone complaining about bad road noise on the IS200, but we'll see what others say I guess !
