Well I've been considering taking the car to some local drift days , and seeings as I have the se model I bought a diff from a sport. Having changed my clutch many times (I think 3 or 4 times now lol) I've had the gear box shafts out a few times, basically has anyone else done this and also how big a job is it to change the diff it's self?

Any pointers welcome.

There's a guide to removing the diff here. Not having done it, or really knowing too much about those bits and pieces, I have no idea whether it's easy or not.

IS200 Turbo project now just about complete ! See my thread here and leave your comments.
Now running standalone Syvecs ECU and no stock ECU !

Still waiting for it to turn up but if anyones interested i could take pics of my progress when I start it. Just remembered I have t in the park this weekend!

I paid TGT £150 for the Diff change so it can't be that big a job?

IF you get a IS200 Sport diff then no difference in NORMAL driving, but if you for the Altezza RS200 Diff (mine also got the axles, thus more money to do the swap!!) you get a lower gear ratio gaining better acceleration with a small loss of top end speed.

The trouble with changing the final drive gearing is that for any given speed on the road you will then be using higher revs to get that same speed, so you will be using more petrol and putting more load on the engine. I see that as a bigger issue than the loss of top speed that you'll also get.

Hardly any difference IMHO, but my engine is also a bit different and is far more economical than the 6cyl IS200, so long as its not driven on boost that often.

I did get 34MPG coming back from B'ham to MK, at a steady 65 - 70MPH. Although now with a slipping clutch and broken release bearing, and a fuel leak it is currently doing about 10MPG.

Yeah it makes sense on your 3S-GTE engine. I don't think it would be a good idea on a normal (1G-FE) IS200 though.
