just asking if you have used the standard head and internals on a turbo install or have you changed the heads and compression ?
most people seem to think that running the engine as is will blow the head but from what i read most have run standard...
your input on this would help
i dont think people have done anything to the heads mate
well,
most people leave the head alone unless your loking for big power. never any problem with head (not that i have heard) what will give up eventually is the conrods will brake or pins pull out of the pistons!
depending on what forged internals you go for if they are standard comp and your running a turbo the flaps on the head can be modified to lower comp, or you can buy lower comp piston already without having to touch head.
there are so many variables ha all down to how much money you want to spend and how much power your looking for!!!

forgot to say and what boost the internals will take is up for much debate!!
most people say standard 0.5boost is highest safe limit to go. .
but there is a few saying they are running much higher on standard. . but thats up to what your willing to risk lol

I have the 1G-GTE pistons and rods in my turbo setup. So those are lower compression pistons. That means I can more safely take more boost, due to the lower compression ratio, as well as the extra strength of those rods.
I imagine that if you stick with the standard pistons you may run into detonation issues if you turn the boost up too much, unless you do something else (e.g. with the head) to change the compression ratio.
Jamie (ex-SPC) was tinkering around with the head on his car (also turbo).
thanks guys for all the input, thats what i've been reading and just wanted to confirm it. and have myself a 1g gte engine at a local scrap yard so might be popping in to see what he says
I would think if you have access to a 1GGTE block then rob the parts and be safe, saved rebuilding later on.

Hi Jay,
IMO the std head and cams etc are perfectly suited for a turbo conversion.(lots of swirl and less than 200* duration on the cams) The std metal head gasket should give no problems so long as both surfaces are flat and true. There is a couple of little mods you can do, or have done, to lower the compression slightly if you really feel it is required.(someone will have pictures I am sure for you) I think up to the boost level you will be aiming for nothing will need to be done though.
As Ian points out clearly the weak link will be the pistons but even these are fairly robust up to a point.
