Yes guys and gals it's service time again. Our contestant this time is a Lexus LS430 which is going to Lexus Woodford for an intermediate service where I'm supplying my own oil for the grand sum of, £260. I've not told them that the screen says it needs a new AC filter, I'm hoping they will spot that. Is the price good for a Lexus dealer? I don't want to use anyone else because I love looking in the service history and seeing all those Lexus service stamps. I will use other places for brakes, cam belts, AC regas etc but for service, in my opinion, you can't beat that L stamp.

Lexus Woodford are the best dealer around here by a mile, they are the cheapest and offer the best service. Some guys over the other side were surprised that they don't charge for inspections either, I've dropped my car off tons of times to have them look at stuff (most recently for the power delivery problems) and they've never charged me anything to do it.

I really don't think £260 is a lot at all for a car like the LS, especially when that's probably the only service expense for the year - I doubt many London independents will do it a lot cheaper anyway!

The back street garage I sometimes use for extra work on the Micra wanted £400 to do it. I've never had a problem with Lexus Woodford and they have been top notch. It's the first time I have ever haggled with them on service price as well.

jsj24uk The back street garage I sometimes use for extra work on the Micra wanted £400 to do it.

Case in point, but wow I can't believe they wanted to charge more than Lexus! Confusedhock:

Although I'm guessing it's probably because they rather didn't want the work?

I guess they didn't. They were also a bit shadey when I asked them about a cambelt change, but I'm going to source a specialist for that one and see if the main dealer will match the price. I have heard, somewhere, can't remember where, that the cambelt change on one of these isn't that too big a nightmare as some garages would have you believe.

the easiest way to make sure they have changed what they said they changed is to request to see the old parts before they are disposed off

and make it perfectly clear that if they cannot show you the parts or highlight the new part on the car to you then you wont be paying for it

for all the money in the world i'd like to trust dealers, but so so often they try to get away with what they can.

its not every dealer obviously, but certain ones in a network will try it, and as the syaing goes "one bad apple...."

^6 agree totally i wasnt aiming it at every person within a dealer,

sometimes its a mechanic,

sometimes its a manager forcing a mechanics hand etc

I took my renault megane to a dealer for annual service, the list for changing was oil filter, air filter, oil, rear brake shoes, disc clean up and summat else

i picked it up and nothing had been done and they had charged me near on £400!!!!

I complained and they admitted fault and offered the entire service plus loads more for free, and another service free after than, aswell as returning my £400

unfortunately i wrote the car off the next day  so whilst i wasnt out of pocket service wise i didnt get the freebies Sad
