I realise I might possibly be asking this too soon but it is currently a pressing matter. I have basically been tasked with finding my dad a replacement car but he has some stipulations.

It has to be;
Automatic (he can no longer work a clutch due to disability)
Economic(ish) (Basically no 15mpg cars)
Decent acceleration
Rear Wheel Drive
4doors and reasonably comfortable (Again disability requires it)
Finally it has to be Japanese; he seems to have a hate for Euroboxes.

I have personally been thinking of the Altezza or Aristo, both quite nice for daily drivers though in different leagues really with the Aristo being a quite huge car and the Altezza a Lexus rebadged.
I am favouring the Altezza due to the engine, I know a hell of a lot about it due to research I did for my own car.

Any input will be greatly appreciated
Cheers guys

The Lexus IS300 fits the bill perfectly IMHO.

3L engine (2JZ-GE)
Auto Gearbox
Style and comfort
4 Doors
Rear wheel drive

Just had a look, doesn't look too bad.
How is it on the economy though? I am imagining that the 2JZ cannot be as economic as the 3SGE.

What are the differences between the Altezza, IS200 & IS300?

The IS300 does about 20mpg around town I think, maybe 25 combined? It's quite similar to the IS200 auto in terms of economy.

If you want more comfort, go for the Lexus rather than the Altezza, spec levels are higher, and things like soundproofing are better on the Lexus.

Altezza rs200 straight 4 2l
Is200/ altezza as200 straight 6 2l
Is300 straight 6 3l

The IS are higher specs then altezza, also IS are easy and normally cheaper to get hold of then altezza.

trying to find mpg, bhp now

BHP, TORQUE, UNDER STEER, OVERSTEER FOR DUMMYS
BHP- how fast you hit the wall, TORQUE- how far you push the wall
OVER STEER- Dont see the wall, UNDER STEER- You do see it
1999 Blue IS200 SportTRD kit, K&N Filter

I get better mpg than 20, nearer 30, just round town, and I drive carefully

Would your dad need to carry a wheel chair.
If so a sportcross could be easier to load and off load.

No wheel chair is needed, just a cane really.

Basically he has had a back operation and as such it hurts his back when he moves his left leg. A side effect from the NHS taking 3years to do the operation
