The MR2 project!
The MR2 project!
Hi all,
So back in April i decided to end my days a Lexus owner (not forever!) and step into something a little bit more sporty, with a roof that came off!
To be honest i was on the lookout for a MK1 MX5 with the intention of Turbocharging it, but out of the blue this came up and we struck a deal with it and my Lexus.
The car is a 1992 N/A Import. 2.0, has a aftermarket manifold and exhaust system, believed to have upgraded cams, also has upgraded discs all round.
Anyway, the car ran great, looked great hasn't missed a beat until MOT time came around.
What originally looked like surface rust on the sills had turned into a complete rot, we literally tore the sills to pieces with a screwdriver ad:ad:
So the first job was to make some new sills and get them fitted on asap to get her back on the road *not ideal as its my daily...*
Got it all sorted, back to the test center and ofcourse she passed.
THEN, I just had an urge for more power, who doesn't?
A cheap cheap cheap donor car came up, a turbo 2, mint everything, 74,000 KM's on the clock, which has been locked away since 2001 iscoStu::kiltsmilie:
I bought it mega cheap as the guy just wanted rid, and its not got a great history (CATB write off) so this has formed the base for my engine conversion, and then the power upgrades will begin.... thinking GT3076R turbo.. hmmmm!!
Pics to follow.
Within the next year i hope to have the following.
Boost controller
Garrett GT3076R or similar sized Turbonetics unit
Greddy BOV (already sorted)
Bigger injectors
Piggyback ECU
Japspeed twin exit exhaust
Custom manifold
Upgraded brakes, suspension etc
And so on...
Looks good mate. Not fancy just keeping the donor and selling the grey one?
Cheers mate
The donor is a Cat B write off.. i've had 4 body shops and 3 mechanics look over it and all have agree'd its never been in a crash, all also agree its had some paint at some time but nothing to warrant it being a cat B.
Strange one, i think it was stolen and locked in a garage all this time and the insurance have just total loss'ed it.
Not good!
Not at all, bonus is that this is the NA 2 so within the month when everything's sorted with the turbo engine etc it'll have a new exhausts system anyway....
