Michelin Pilot Sport PS3 tyres ordered
I need some new tyres for the Evo. The standard fit Yokohama C-Drive tyres are getting a bit low so after much research I have decided to go for a brand new set of just released Michelin Pilot Sport PS3 (the replacement for the PS2).
The Pilot Sport 3 is supposed to retain all the dry handling characteristics and performance of the current Pilot Sport 2 (which are amongst the best you can get), but significantly increases performance in the wet (to try to match and beat the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetrics), especially its cornering ability in terms of outright grip and resistance to aquaplaning. Braking performance in the wet is supposed to be much better too. The graphic below gives an idea of the performance increase (taken from Michelin)

I had a full set of the PS2's on the skyline mate, and got to say there a fantastic tyre, the grip in the wet or dry was great :thumbup1:

Are Michelin tyres pretty good then? I always used to think of them as the automatic choice for tyres, but for some reason since getting the Lexus that died away.......
And the cost issue is all about demand, it's not necessarily about size. If there's a higher demand for this size than at the Lexus size, the Lexus ones will be more expensive as they make fewer of them.

£116 a corner mate. :thumbup1:
I could have gone for Verdestain Ultra Sessanta for £88 a corner or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetrics for £106 a corner. I didn't want to to go for the Goodyears after everything WIM say about them in some cases and the bad experience I had with them on the BMW. The Verdesteins I have on my BMW and they are great but I've never had a full set of Michelin tyres so thought I would try them and the Michelin PS3s are newly delveoped and were only released in Jan so its all new technology. The Michelins PS2 are supposed to be the bees knees so thought I'd try the new PS3s and be the guinea pig. :Chair:
@Parthiban - I used to think Michelin tyres were overpriced and a con. But my mate Sabs at Auto-Serve (who does tyres all day long) really rates them because they are easy to balance and generally free of defects and grip really well - he has never had a problem with a customers Michelin tyre in 14 years of trading. If you think about it the Pilot Sports are the factory fit tyres on the BMW M3, M5, Bugatti Veryron, Porsche 911 Turbo etc etc etc. The only thing with them is they are expensive.
I would not get them for my BMW however. A rear 255/35/18 is almost £200 EACH and a Verdestein Ultra Sessanta at £106 is I think going to be almost as good if not as good; its certainly the best tyre I have had on it, and I have had Goodyears, Dunlop, Falken.
I decided that for the Evo however, because this is my firstime changing tyres I'd for for what is the best so I can then use it as a base to compare other tyres with.

Fair enough, didn't realise they were so widely used among high performance vehicles, which means they must be pretty good. I'm not worried about cost so much as I don't do huge mileage, just grip and comfort so do update after a few months how the michelins feel (especially in the cold weather which is now what I'm convinced is the problem with the goodyears).

The rears on mine are around the £220 mark each, 265/35/18, for the Pilot sport 2's, And if i could afford them again i'd have them again on whichever car i end up with? :thumbup1:
