suspension noises
hi all-brief rundown of work so far completed in an effort to stop knocking noises - 2 x front discs and pads,2 x upper balljoints , 2 x lower balljoints , two droplinks , two front shock absorbers - many knocks gone but still cannot live with noise on rough roads-its down to an occasional knock and a low kinde clap/thud which im hoping is arb bushes which have been checked untold times but in the process of elimination its the next logical step - does anyone else recall problems like this or the cures for travelling on less then perfect roads-as most are-and is it just one of those characteristics if the is200/300
yup spare secure-jack secure-nothing loose in boot - noise coming from front and can be loud-pedestrians jump in surprise loud sometimes-- not what i expected of a lexus tbh - i was gonna go as far as topmounts then admit defeat as not having a lot of luck with the lex in general but that also kills the only other car i want - the is300 as it could suffer similar problems-mind you i read steviewievies build thread today and it shows admirable patience-which i could learn - i just hate the look the gf gives me every time i spend money on this issue and its not cured --i adore the car in nearly every other way though so would be a shame to give up - ive spent about £1800 on it since jan-oh if the weather cheers up at the weekend im going to strip the front brakes and service the pins etc and check the spring has good tension on it
It's not a characteristic of the IS200, no, it shouldn't make any knocking noises. The ARB bushes are worth a look, though if they've been checked already a few times that doesn't sound too likely ?
Is the noise from the front or rear ? You haven't got a broken ARB have you ?
update-had the oem arb bushes fitted today with some improvement in noise over potholey roads - while the car was in the air i noticed some bolts missing here and there from the plastic shrouding running down the sides of the car underneath which i have come home and replaced/retightened there still seems to be quite a lot of "flex" in these side panels even though they are tightly secured which does sound a bit like it could be the cause of the funny "widga board" kinda noise i have been trying to eliminate - do these underneath side sill type plastic shrouds serve any urgent purpose or are they an integral part or bolted to anything i should be aware of before i remove them to see if the noise in question is caused by these ?
One of those plastic sill cover things broke in half when I was driving once, which was a real pain. I just took it off, after Stav had told me he'd removed his. They just help keep the underside clean. I suppose it helps stops road salt being splashed on there, but it's all protected anyway.
Mine snapped and dragged along the floor, making a horrible noise, so it was pretty obvious lol. Though when I got out of the car and had a look I was very relieved to see it was just the plastic that had broken, I had imagined far worse !
going out to mcd in a min so ill see if tightening it up has helped at all - would be my luck that two 10mm nuts and a loose bit of plastic would cause me to practically replace all the front suspension links etc - still its good to have a tight front end i spose
update - had my underneath side sill plastics removed today which were certainly making some noise over rough roads as evident by the lack of it afterwards - i can only presume that after a certain age these plastics loose some of their original rigidity and become more flexible then when new
