hi all,

after getting my new strut brace the Nuts are looking in a bad way.

does anyone know where i can get new ones from or a different set as its letting the look of the bay down slightly with nasty rusty nuts

i want to change out some of the bolts anyway so may as well look at doing these aswell.

plus anyone know the size for these i havent a clue

thanks

Yep thats the correct size, although the flange isn't quite as wide as OEM so I put washers under mine to stop them cracking the paint because I rattle canned the towers blue. Smile

Not wanting to worry anyone here, but shouldn't the nuts used on the suspension towers be high tensile? I'm not sure how much force they are subject to, but I'd assume quite a bit combined with how much they need to be torqued down to?

I wouldn't have thought they are any higher than any other nut in the engine bay, as all the force is pushing upward under the housing anyway? The nuts are just there to stop them falling out the bottom?

But either way, the ones I mentioned are 316 stainless so they'll be much stronger than the normal painted steel ones that come as standard.

EDIT: Missed an oportunity to state that "my nuts are perfectly adequate"

You could well be right mate, but one of the forces I would have thought to be exerted on them would be under heavy braking when the body of the car wants to carry on, but the wheels/brakes/suspension want to stop?

If thats the case I'm not sure stainless steel is the right way to go as it is far more brittle than zinc plated high tensile steel, which I thought the OEM nuts were.

I always thought that the OEM nuts were Zinc plated high tensile steel.

Yee there is that too...:whistling:

I guess there could be huge forces on them if braking hard while cornering (which you shouldn't be doing anyway I might add)

But still, I trust my nuts to do their job

Not sure about other models, but the strut top nuts on mine were just black painted like every other bolt in my engine bay.

Not that I could find when I did mine. I tried wire brushing them, but it didn't work. I think you really need to paint them as once they've rusted the zinc coating on them has worn off otherwise they'll just start rusting again straight away.
