Project Lex - Soon to be Supercharged :D
Project Lex - Soon to be Supercharged :D
Copied from another forum
Well after about a year in Golluf (ABF'd mk2 golf gti) I decided it was time for something a little more modern and comfortable until I return to Dubs again.
So after a bonus at work I picked up this little beauty for the tidy sum of £3,000.
W reg Lexus IS200 Sport
RWD
LSD
2.0 Straight Six -153bhp
Traction control with Snow mode
Auto headlights
Air con
Heated seats
Black leather and black cloth interior
Electric folding mirrors and sunroof
6 cd changer
After around 3 weeks and about 2,000 miles Im very happy with it!
What it looked like when I bought it...
I then bought a genuine Toyota Altezza grill - £46 delivered - BARGAIN!
Also got some HID's for £56 delivered
Excuse the poo images, I decided to fit the grill at 9.30 on a Friday night...in the rain
Before:
During:
After and halfway through fitting my HID's:
Im really happy with the results, it's really cleaned up the front of the car, and the HID's have made a huge difference!
When I bought the car, it came with a custom stainless battery bar/cover made by Chris @ CMD Custom. It had got a bit grubby as it hadnt been cleaned in a while, so gave it a quick going over with some Autosol...
Came out nice, but will give it a proper polishing when I get a chance. Looks really good fitted but havent got any pics yet.
Thats it for now, while I try and save some money for shows, and mods etc.
To do list:-
Coilovers
Wheels
New set of plates (possibly private plate)
L.E.D bulbs for interior lights, sidelights, number plate light
HID Foglights
CW style front bumper
TTE lip for rear bumper
and then it'll be changing colour ; )
Comments welcome - good and bad
** UPDATE **
A small update for you guys, with hopefully a much bigger one to follow next week...
It's my 21st on Tuesday, so all being well I should be ordering some D2 Racing coilovers next week
I'm going to sit the car on it's **** on the standard 17's which will be powdercoated either Anthracite or Black untill I order some 19's.
I might order some shiney bits for the bay/minor cosmetic bits for now untill I order my 19's and exhaust system
Will update when the coilies arrive!
*** UPDATE ***
I decided to de-badge the rear of the IS200 the other day....
Before:
Badges off:
Glue/residue removed (still a tiny bit that needs t-cutting off):
EXHAUST UPDATE
After looking at multiple brands, I ordered an HKS Hi Power Silent exhaust from TDI Powertuning. I ordered it at 4pm Tuesday and Cheryl @ TDI made sure it was at their unit in Lakeside the following morning, so me and Rob went to go and pick it up....
Then got it home and opened it up....
After soaking the 2 bolts we needed to undo in WD40 for 2 hours, they still wouldnt budge,
so I got my Dad to give them a blast with a blowtorch. They soon free'd themselves up and we got the old
rear section off
Spot the difference...
Before:
After:
And a small sound test:
*** UPDATE ***
Well after a delay with SPD Automotive sending out my coilovers, they finally arrived
Out came the tools and we got cracking...
What she looked like before we started...
First new shock in situe...
Didn't take any pictures of fitting as it was a two man job and we didnt have time on our side
These were taken with no tension on the springs or shocks, and having issues with running out of arch gap!!
Slight bit of camber on the way down...
Down some more but still no tension on the shocks or springs...
Got camber?!?!
And all the way down., with exhaust sitting about two inches from floor, and we realised we were never going to get the car back up the drive, so we took the rear shocks off again, wound them up almost as far as they'd go and lengthened the shocks by 40mm with the following results (after we'd done the fronts too)
Ellen messing around
I personally love it, it looks great imo, rides real nice even though I havent adjucted the dampers (and wont till I need to), handles like it's on rails and braking distances have been halved!!
Hopefully will have the wheels refurbed for mod nats, and my bumper re-sprayed to remove that horrible scrape.
Will hopefully be slightly lower by the weekend too, once the coilovers have settled a little
Comments and criticisms welcome as always
Small Update
I picked up a nasty scrape on my bumper a little while ago, which I've had a quote to repair from AutoShine (Mobile paint repairs). £90+VAT to repair the affected area and blend the paint with the rest of the bumper
I've also spoken to Hayward & Scott (Exhaust Specialists) and have been quoted £100 to remove the silencing chamber from my exhaust
I'm going to remove it myself and just get them to tig weld it though so it should be a little cheaper than that
Hopefully will pickup some Torque-Evo web address stickers from Mark on Sunday too, so will soon be reppin' 8)
Roll on these bits being done and Modded Nats
Well Saturday morning I had a mobile painter booked for 9am, to sort out this nasty scrape...
Unfortunately due to him writing down the wrong date, and double booking himself he didnt arrive till 12pm!
Well after he turned up he was a nice enough bloke and did a pretty good job (especially seeing as he only charged me £60 instead of the £90 quoted )
No after pictures I'm afraid...but I have some of the car after a quick wash furhter down the page
Sunday afternoon I rocked up to Chris's with my rather quiet HKS Hi Power Silent exhaust which was crying out to be louder!
So we whipped it off and began to cut off the silencing chamber...
This proved alot more difficult than expected as we found that my entire exhaust was made from 3mm minimum 304 grade stainless steel (as aposed to the relatively thin stuff most aftermarket systems are made of).
So 1 cutting disk later we ended up with this...
After a quick inspection we noticed the chamber was filled with water, so my guess is it has a few baffling chambers within the main one filled with water which dissapates (sp) the sound and stops it resonating. (Feel free to provide a better explanation anyone!!)
Pipe that needed plating over and the plate we cut out from the pipe on the silencing chamber...
Test fit...perfect
All welded up and a comparison shot...
And after the drive back from the ghetto multi-storeys of Guildford, I pulled into my local garage for a quick sound clip
Forgot to mention that after we'd done my exhaust we took it for a quick drive and decided to stiffen up the damping 3 clicks on the front and 2 on the rear, so the car now goes round corners like it's on rails
And to finish off, here are a few pics from the very quick wash the car recieved just before heading down to the ghetto Guildford multi-storey
Sorry for the essay!! Comments and criticism welcome as always
Well I've been toying with the idea of rattle canning my wheels for a while, just to tart them up abit untill I get my new wheels so....
I 'keyed' up the original paintwork with some coarse sandpaper (400 grit I think) and then went over it with some slightly finer stuff (600) and then masked it up...
Then two layers of filler primer
then after some sanding and another layer of filler primer I added some colour...
*** Small update ***
Well me and the Lex had a bit of a nightmare at Modded Nats
On the Saturday, I managed to lock my keys in the boot whilst getting some stuff out of the car. Shut the boot and the car locked itself...DOH!
So after calling about 6 automotive lock companies and them laughing at me, and informing me that an IS200's boot is pretty much inpenetrable without damaging it, I called the AA & WOW!
They turned up within 19 mintues of me calling them and I was in the car within another 7 minutes
Battery went dead that night too, so was towed through the VIP campsite and into the showground by Peanut and his skyline, and over to the Torque-Evolution stand. It was here that I got a jump start from Bazz's astra and left the car running to charge the battery
On the Sunday, I decided to wander off and see if I couldn't find some stickers for the Lex and found these....(the pedo bear ones were already on the car).
I also bought another sticker, it read 'Never took it up the ring' which Ginger Rob kindly modified for me....much to the delight of myself, Rob & Mark
After helping Peanut destroy his tent, I found this little water pistol on the floor and decided it simply must join the green theme on the Lex....
I've also got a few more stickers to go on that you should all be able to see at the meet on Sunday
Lastly, a couple of random pics of the car & 2 short videos Ellen got of the convoy to Modified Nationals (sorry about the poor quality, probably my fault as my right foot was a little heavy on the go pedal )
