Fuse issue? HELP!
Fuse issue? HELP!

:whistling:Me and a friend fitted a double din unit in my IS200 a month or two back, and a couple of weeks ago, it powered itself off, and wouldnt come back on again.
It's getting power because the red led light still comes on but it doesnt boot up and the screen stays black.
Yesterday I removed the 7.5A 'TV' fuse from the fuse panel in the passenger side footwell and although it wasnt blown, the terminals were a brown colour on one side. I replaced the fuse but to no avail
Could it be that the fuse on the back of the unit has blown? If so what kind of fuse is it? (the same kind of micro fuse as in the fuse panel etc?)
After 2 weeks of no music, and quite regularly having to make hour long journeys, the motorway is becoming a VERY tedious place!!

I think that brownish colour on the fuses is quite normal. When I was having some power issues on my car, I pulled all the fuses and they had a kind of burned appearance on the pins.
At a guess tho I'd say that your head unit is duff. If it worked, then stopped, but there's still power going to it...that would be my diagnosis.
Only true way to tell I guess would be to pull it out and wire it straight up to the battery.

Ahh that doesnt sound good!
It worked fine for a good 6 weeks or so with no issues, but ive heard that plugging satnav charger cables into the cigerette lighter can sometimes pop fuses etc, and is quite common.
Im going to check all the fuses in the passenger side footwell - are there any others I should be checking? and make sure they're all good.
Failing that Ive been told there's probably a fuse in the back of my headunit and to check that?

There will almost certainly either be a fuse on the back of the unit, or inline in the head unit's wiring loom. If you've blown that though, it *has* to be the HU that's done it. Plugging a satnav unit into the *** lighter that drew enough to blow the fuse would blow the RADCIG fuse, which is in the small driver's side fusebox. In my car it's rated quite highly so you'd have to have a very faulty satnav charger to blow it!
It's worth double checking that the fuses involved in the stereo (on the back / in the loom and also the RADCIG fuse) are the correct rating. If someone's blown them and replaced them with lower rated fuses then they'd blow through normal use.

Whenever I use my satnav, I normally just power it off the cig lighter alot of the time, because i dont like leaving it on charge in the car incase people see it and decide they want it lol. Myabe thats what's blown the fuse? although it's been fine for the last year or so with the standard headunit.
