Need help troubleshooting battery issue
Hi All, had a bit of an issue this morning got down to my car this morning to go to work, but tfound the battery completely drained, I know for certain nothing was left on as i double checked everything after i managed to jump start the car, I can however say that the car has an after market Radio/cd frontloader and the lexus amplifier was taken out completely by the previous owner, i have taken the car back to where i bought it from to have it checked out by an auto electrician who said the Radio was installed incorrectly and that there was a permananet drain on the battery because of it, the whole radio installation was re wired as a result and the report back was that the drain is now "gone", I know from past experience that there is always a permanent drain on a cars battery especially one with the level of electronics as a lexus, it but the drain is supposed to be small enough for the battery to be able to handle a start up crank even days after not being used, I 'm wondering where i can check next because this is becoming a problem for me for a number of reasons, I leave for work earlier then most people in my appartment block, so too early for a friendly boost from a neighbour, I don't own a booster pack yet, and i can't get enough momentum on the car to jump start it by my self, i really need to get this issue sorted ASAP, so if possible form you guys, I need to know the correct battery to use in a 2000 IS200, currently I have a 65Ahr not sure of the battery code though, I'm pretty sure you need at least a 70Ahr but not sure, also need to know where to look to to try and stop the drain more don't really feel like disconnecting the battery every night:thumbdown:, any help would be appreciated.
check the alternator and if if your after a decent battery these are pretty good, varta E44.

Have you checked the alternator output mate, to see if its getting a proper charge? i've not used mine now for 4 weeks and it started yesterday first turn? mines only fitted with a 60ah 450cca (cold cranking amps) exide battery at the moment? the battery number is usually a 005. i usually go for the highest CCA and amps when buying one myself, but funds were low at the time so the Exide one did the trick
There normally a good price at toyota/lexus dealers too mate, if you do need another one? :thumbup1:
Hmmmm, to be honest haven't made a conscious effort to check that will do though, and while i'm at it, what is the OEM alternator rated at in terms of Amps per hour, might upgrade that too soon to a 120-150Ahr for a split charging setup (Had one of these in my Bora back in SA, that system worked very well and got me out of jams a few times including drained (Primary/Starting/OEM) battery. It works well for those big ICE installs
Well after all this it turns out that some time during the last time the Lex was at the used car salesmen getting the radio re-wired the 65AH battery i had in the lex was swapped out again for the original 44AH battery that was in the car when i first laid claim to the lex, this 44AH battery was the initial cause of me coming back to have the car sorted as the battery kept getting drained the same as yesterday, my question is, why put the same 44AH battery back in the car when you already know its not the right size to begin with:thumbdown:
Sounds like that battery is knackered. He may have fixed the fault with the radio but it's already damaged the battery so it's too late for that.
I don't know man, its possible, I just can't for the life of me figure out why they would do something like that, unless they figured they rewired the radio and thought all should work ok again with the old (too small) battery back in it again, any how i called them and they sorted it by buying me a brand new 65AH battery, so i guess i can't complain much any more just seems weird thats all.
