Is200 LSD
Is200 LSD
Snow mode just dulls the throttle response, snow tyres are really good, its all about getting grip and these do it brilliantly. I drove the sportx today over compacted snow and it was so much better then the is200 saloon, no twitching at all, with normal tyres, you could hear the diff working.
The IS300's did as far as I can tell.
check the number on the bulk head, if it says AO2B or AO2C you have an LSD, if it says AO2A, then you have an open diff.
edit: I think all the 2001+ sportcrosses have LSD's, some of the earlier ones had it as an option (as far as I remember).
Went out in my Sport last night, which is wearing a set of Uniroyal winter tyres, and it was great. Right up until I got a little over zealous coming off a large roundabout onto an untreated road with fresh powdery snow on it; bit of a left-right-left occured, fortunately at low speed, and it corrected itself with just a little counter steering and feet firmly away from the pedals.
But otherwise, it was fine - grip up hills, even though the forest roads, and parking (going backwards up a slope and turning 90deg, all on block paving with compacted snow ice) was a cinch. Can't complain!
Went out this afternoon to look for a quiet, snow covered carpark to play on, just so I can learn where the edge is and what to expect when I get to it, but coudln't find anything big enough. So I just did a few donuts instead
On braking, it's awesome! 20mph, hammer the brakes on, and the ABS doesn't even kick in! Even with the clutch down, it just brakes to a halt, with just a teeny tiny skid (foot at the most) at the end.
my car was absolutely useless in the snow with the lsd, was fine once moving but if you got stuck it was useless, the handbreak trick didnt work for me!
James S I think it's down to tyres more then anything. Fancy a LSD though.
