Hard Drive
Hard Drive
Just posting something for my brother.
He shut his pc down the other night, and when it went to boot up it asked him to "Install Boot media" etc etc. I tried the hard drive in my pc and got the same message. I also tried it as a 2nd hard drive, so it wouldnt boot up. The computer didnt even recognise the hard drive, and so didnt appear.
Im just wondering if you think the reader of the Hard drive has broken, and so doesnt send any data to the computer? also, is there anyway of getting the data off the hard drive, as it had wedding invitations on etc.
Thanks
James
you can get a harddrive caddy,
then you put the HD in that and it attaches to a working computer via USB as just another drive.
Sounds like the HD is not connected properly, at Stav said get a caddy and hook it up to a coputer which works, then it will show up on my computer as an extra drive
This happened to my sister computer, would not load up, I didnt buy a caddy just a internal SATA cable and hooked it up, and the HD worked fine on the other computer so worked out it was the cables, replaced and fixed !
If the hard drive has completely died then you might not be able to read it at all, no, it depends what the problem is. It doesn't sound good, was it not under warranty ?
Does the hard drive make any noises when the power is attached to it ?
There are companies that can extract the data aren't there if it's important?
You're sure it's connected up correctly with the right sort of cables/connectors ? If so and you can't see the drive, then it doesn't sound good unless you go down the specialist data recovery route.
Have you tried it on another PC, just in case the one you're using has a problem seeing external drives ?
