External hard drive problem
External hard drive problem
Ok I plugged my external hard drive into the TV to watch a film today and now its well and truly naffed . It wont work on my computer now or on the TV .
All my files / folders have funny writing on them and even the HD name has changed !! I have just under 500 gig of films on there , so how do I recover them or is it stuffed ???
Sounds like it has become corrupted. There may be a way to recover them, but not sure I can help without the device in hand, sorry.
EDIT: Wait a minute! If you can see that the files have "funny writing" on them, then you are able to view the files? Will it let you copy them off the drive?
no when you look at the files it say the computer wont open them !!!
I am more than willing to post out said HD to anyone who is confident on fixing it.
And they can also copy any / all of my films for themselves , but be warned there is some none family friendly films
As Stoney says it sounds like the partition is corrupted. You could try running Chkdsk on it and see what it comes up with. Click Start (or the Windows logo down on the left) and type cmd. Right click cmd.exe and choose Run as admin. In the command prompt, type chkdsk x: (replace x with your drive letter) and press Return. What does it say?
I've got a bunch of data recovery tools, but I'm guessing it would be a lot cheaper to send the hard drive to someone in the UK.
P.Lindbolm is right try the checkdisk first, if not there is some recovery tools available on the net to download, which have helped me in sticky sittuation before. most of them are trail but im sure you can find way in getting full versions !?! if not PM me.
Give it try, if not i am willing to give recovering them a try.
Saraj I think you might get offended with some of the films that are on the HD. :whistling:
But I'll try what has been suggested
I dont think I can be offended anymore then I have in my time ! lol
just tried what has been suggested and it did nothing , just said it could not do it
sorry the checkdisc? or recovery software?
the checkdisc
