Virgin Media and Other ISP's to follow Suit
The BBC and other sources say that Virgin Media have started to send out letters to people who are taking part in illegal file sharing across the internet. This is to crack down on the copyrighted songs being distributed and downloaded illegally.
Letters are going to be aimed towards the parents as it is suspected that only children are involved. The full report is here

To me i dont think this is right. Yerh file sharing illegally is bad, but why start with the UK, when there are other countries who do it on a larger scale than us. Why have virgin media agreed to it, they know it will drive customers away?
Also, i dont believe ANY isp will follow the 3 strikes and out rule, because it would open the market for a new ISP to come in and say "You can download whatever you want, we wont police the internet"
What are your thoughts
This isn't new, they announced this ages ago - we're with VM, and no letter to date
They announced it ages ago but i just found it so
Do you download a lot, and if so, from places like limewire or bit torrent. (Sorry if im being a bit personal)
Do you think they can track me using a rapidshare premium account?
Also, if they go "You downloaded a Beyonce song a 9:35pm on sunday" cant i just say, its a cover version especially for p2p users? They would have to check my hard drive to check it was or wasnt/
Yes I use bittorrent a bit, not as much as I used to but still occasionally. I don't know anyone who got one of those warnings - to be honest I think it was a publicity stunt to get the music and media companies off their backs (as they were trying to make the ISPs take responsibility for what people download)
My friends friend has recieved one, telling him to stop. 2 letters from VM, and 2 from BPI (Just like in the video). But, the whole point of P2P dean, is that you also upload the file. Once youve downloaded it, if you open up limewire/bit torrent, you are then hosting files off your pc for people to download from youself.
(They click a link on piratebay (for example), that opens up the torrent program which searches for it, and downloads different parts from various locations. If you have that file, it can download from you)
I never use P2P and when I do i disable sharing, so download but never share.
These companies are targeting individuals who share not so much so for downloaders,
When I used to use P2P more, I used to use something called Peerguardian to hide the traffic - does anything like that still exist? If so, worth using it.
But yes I think they're mainly after uploaders than downloaders - it's not very nice to do it, but I used to remove the file as soon as it finished downloading, as long as you don't have too much upload traffic from your connection they're probably not that bothered what you're doing.
I don't shoplift, therefore I don't use these illegal sites to download data that isn't yours to download or theirs to share. If ISP's are attempting to cut down on crime then good for them.
I bet none of you would walk into a record shop and just take the disk - its exactly the same thing with illegal down loads, only you do it from home/work and don't have to look the shopkeeper in the eye.
If you want something just pay for it, if you can't afford it save up until you can.
