I know we complain about car insurance, but normally there's some logic behind it so it's sort of understandable. However, the renewal for the merc came in (my dad main driver, me additional) and it was £750 (perfectly reasonable).

However my dad was in a crash in the prius a while back, not his fault (not actually sure if it's settled yet, need to check but for the time being put it in as settled just to get some quotes online) and when I add this on it takes the quote from £750 to £1250!

Now to me that's just ridiculous, that's £500 extra (or 67%!) for someone else crashing into you!

I'm dreading to think what the premium if I have to put the claim through as unsettled!

Yep I know what you mean Parthi. I had a similar 'can not believe it' experiance last night. As you may have seen elsewhere on here my wife has changed her car and my eldest daughter Sarah is going to get Ann's car and we are then going to sell on Sarah's car. I went on confused.com last night to get some comparisons as usual, picked up an old quote from last year, brought her details up to date, just another year older and another years no claims and got a series of quotes as is, so that I had something to compare against.

I then updated the details with the details of Ann's car, this being an identical car and year and got the quotes. I couldn't believe that on average all the quotes had gone up by about £85 Sad

After a lot of trial and error I discover that the reason for the price increase is purely because she has only just got the car rather than her existing one owned for 4 years. I tested this by keeping her old car details but entering the aquired date as now. Barstewards.

Joke aint it mate, same here mines gone up by £111 per year, but what you have to remember is that we do have to pay for the people who put in bum "whiplash" claims so they can have a nice holiday to recover, then brag to their mates how much compensation they received, Bless them.

Seems this is commonplace then - just ridiculous. If it went up £50 fair enough, but it's a NON FAULT claim, £500 extra is just taking the pi**

its all postcode statistics, any excuse to bump the price up, doesn't matter who is at fault half the time

Non fault claims that have not been settled yet are processed as fault claims, so that won't be helping. There's no "innocent until proven guilty" in insurance. I have one that's nearly 3 years old...

mine in sweden went down about 100 pounds this year and that includes all the mods and turbo and wheels added. they must be wanting there big bonus's back now we have all stopped complaining. the corolla verso came in cheaper aswell. even when drivers under 20 and learner drivers added to it.
