Petrol filler flap not popping open....
Petrol filler flap not popping open....
Strange one this.
Last week I discovered that the filler flap on my IS200 felt like the hinge was partly seized and in danger of distorting the metal flap when I opened it. Not wanting this to happen on my new toy I doused the hinge with WD40 and moved it back and forth till it freed off.
The problem I've just found (After turning up at a petrol station) was that the flap doesn't "Pop" anymore when I pull the lever in the cabin.
First I thought "S**T!!! The ****** cable must have snapped" but after some more poking about I found that it was fine. I got another customer to press at the front of the flap while I pulled the lever and it opened without a problem. The hinge still feels smooth and everything looks ok, but it still won't pop open.
I had a good look around inside and I can't see what's meant to open the flap that initial half inch so the locking pin doesn't just drop back in its hole.
Is anyone able to shed some light on what's happening here?

I had the same years ago, if i remember correctly it was the spring that pushes the flap out when you pull the lever, its only a small cheap little thing, get yourself to the dealer they should be able to get the part up on the screen, straight forward to replace!
Well, After seeing pictures of what its meant to look like, I've realised that the little flat spring at the hinge end has snapped.
I might just put a small pad of soft sticky back rubber somewhere behind it to pop it open till I decide if its worth going to Lexus just to order/collect a little springy clip.

Well, I got a replacement "Springy thing" bit from the local Lexus dealer today.
Turns out that there were 3 different version's of the spring used over the IS200's life (If anyones interested, The one for mine was Toyota part number "77360-33020" and only cost £3.40 ).
Till today I'd resorted to a short length of 8mm silicone tube held onto the back of the flap with double sided trim tape to pop it open 5 or so mm when I pulled the release lever (It worked well enough as a temporary bodge if anyone finds themselves in the same situation).
Anyway, I pulled and twisted the old springs plastic backing from the filler flap and had to resort to "Well, If I break the replacement it was only three and a bit quid" levels of force to pop the new one into place. Once I realised that it was brute force and ignorance time it only took a few seconds to fit...... but I still took a good ten minutes trying to alleviate the ignorance bit before I finally let brute force out to play.
So, I've now got a filler flap that opens properly again (And makes that reassuringly Lexus style "Ploink" sound when I pull the lever. :tongue_smilie I'm once again a happy bunny.
Thanks for your help everyone.
