Boxters are a real mare to work on, even the engine is hidden away under covers, it takes just over 30 mins just to remove the engine covers etc to see the engine!!

Going to look at an MR2 Tubby tomorrow - looks "nice" but will need a bit of suspension work to make it right for us, it is ever so low and we have speed humps at work that are fairly high. Good colour, slightly modified with a charge cooler, Century sticker (that gives 10BHP)!!

Need to make sure there is a turbo which doesn't smoke, paint is in good nick, kick the tyres etc, no seriously, anything particular to watch out for?

Once it's warmed up find a nice straight road and nail it to the rev limiter in 2nd. Keep an eye out the back, any blue smoke walk away. Usual things like make sure it brakes in a straight line, no funny looking welds in the boot etc. Knocking from the front is knackered droplinks which is quite common. Make sure none of the wheels is too hot when you finish your testdrive (as you may have guessed, they have brakes that stick!). There's a better buyers guide on BenF's site: http://www.btinternet.com/~netsurf/mr2t/buyMR2T.html

Also, the power steering should disengage at 50mph. If it stays active until 80 then it has the wrong kind of speedo chip fitted. PS at 80 is a little scary!

Got the car back last night. Brake pedal travel is terrible but it does at least stop well. It pumps up and then slowly goes soft though so I'm not too sure it will pass an MOT Sad

Ordered the required parts including master cylinder from Toyota... won't leave me with much change from £400. Won't be in until the end of the month so I'm not going to put it in for the MOT until then. Need to readjust the handbrake too as it's ever so slightly on all the time on the passenger side.

Next stop seats!
