ah yeah i knwo what you are saying but i would be loathed to have to shell out more wonga over what i already do for the iphone but in saying that i have pre-registered my interest lets see what happens !!! Aside from the iphone im keeping my eyes also on the nokia n900 and wanna see if that comes out on orange too.
If it does affect prices, I hope it does in the next 3 months ! so I can afford to buy one lol
think youve answered your own questions..
look at mac mini - macbook - macpro..
it will be free, on certain tarrifs, just like it is on o2. upgrades will be based on partly on ARPU and COST price of phone. this can be very diff to the retail place and in some cases the retail can be less than the costs based on revenue share deals, as is the current o2/apple deal.
retail loses on each iphone contract that is sold but there are revenue share deals based on arpu that give 'commission' back. some of this is based on airtime and some based on app sales..
the iphone changed the face of how the mobile industry and manufacturers prices and retains a continuous revenue stream.
just look at vodaphone 360 to see how they influenced the marketplace
N2KHL i usually go to orange retentions once im out of contract and threaten to leave to get a good deal

In Western Europe, revenue per connection has been falling by 5.4% over the last three years hence the decline in handsets for free and poorer upgrade deals.
most retention teams now have a 'ceiling'.. i hope you get what your after but i have found that even retention teams have there limits now..

being as I work for Orange I feel I should offer a couple of words too
the iphone was only exclusive to O2 in this country and Orange already offers it in 28 other countries, one idea is have a look abroad at the deals offered on both Orange and O2 and see how they compare, if Orange give better deals there then they may do here when we get it
i'm waiting for the Nokia N900 tho and thats available for pre-order direct from Nokia now
